Dunn's Inc., Hwy. 57E., P.O. Box 449, Grand Junction, Tenn., 38039-0449 just sent me a catalogue that's bound to be of interest to hinters. Duck hunters, for instance, will be in- terested in ,the camouflaged thermos bottle. Made from stainless steel, this thermos is indestructible and is equip- ped with a convenient carrying strap. With a one quart capacity, it's just the, right size for a day in the marsh and at $29.95, the price is right as well. Another good idea is a set of four mugs, shaped and marked like shotgun shells. They are made from durable heavy gauge plastic, are dishwasher proof andguaranteed to have been, "field tested". The mugs come in sets of four, hold 16 ounces and cost $16.95 for the set. Or how about a little gift for the gentleman afield. British Lancer's Flasks are made of stainless steel covered with traditional military tan or green hard cloth. They feature an at- tached "bayonet" cap, special filling funnel, are six or eight ounce capacity and come gift boxed. If you have an up and coming young hunter in the family who would just love to be going out with dad, there's a special section for him. Everything a youngster would love to have is here; including boots, parkas, gloves, hats, coveralls, long underwear, even hip boots. Dog owners will love the catalogue as well. There's crates, grooming aids, training aids, and •just about anything you'd need to turn your pup into a train- ed retriever or pampered lap dog. If you're having any trouble at all try- ing to come up with gift ideas, just drop a line to Dunn's Inc.; ask for their catalogue and a lot of your problems will be solved. • ° * * * Everyone who fishes knows the trade name Trilene, but now many people have any idea of how the company started and -developed. Well, Berkley was founded in 1937 by 16 year old Berkley Bedell. Using $50 saved from a paper route he began tying flies in the bedroom of his home. Berk grew the business and developed Berkley Steelon, an innovative nylon -coated steel leader. Innovations continued with Trilene nylon alloy fishing line, terminal tackle and Berkley rods. CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1986—Page 15 In 1979, Tom Bedell joined Berkley, becoming president in 1982.'ibm brought to to Berkley new insights in marketing and an aggressive profit -oriented sales approach focusing on dealer needs. Through the commitment of Berk, Tom and over 900 co-workers, and through your support, Berkley has become one of the largest fishing tackle companies in North America and the in- dustry leader in fishing line, rods, fish at- tractants and outdoor accessories. If that isn't a success story, I don't know what is. ;4 *** How important is rod sensitivity? It's important enough that Berkley invested a million dollars last year alone to buy equipment that enabled them to be the first rod manufacturer to make linear graphite. Most graphite rods, even high graphites, have graphite fibers criss- crossing the blank. The fibers add weight, absorb vibrations and deaden feel, but were necessary to give graphite rods sufficient strength. Now, that's history. The new Berkley Series One rod is 100 per cent linear graphite. Every graphite fiber, over 120,000 of them, run lengthwise tip to butt. That means every vibration travels the rod tip directly to the anglers hand without signal loss. This produces the lightest, strongest most sensitive 100 per cent graphite rod ever developed. Berkley's Series One has all the finest qualities that assure rod performance. Both baitcast and spinning models have exposed blank construction .for greater feel and sensitivity. Unique handle designs with built in fighting butts pro- vide better balance, more leverage and greater fish -fighting power; Berkley uses only the very best com- ponents in the Series One. The diamond polished guides reduce friction and heat build up and assure greater distance when casting. They are the finest silicon carbide, and offer one third the weight of stainless steel and are 12 times harder. Berkley's Series One comes in 13 models, designed for bass, walleye and other fish, including four casting models, four spinning models, three trigger sticks and one flipping model. There are also eight steelhead models including four casting, one spinning, two hotshot rods and one back bouncin' model. Redmen win eight of ten games On November 12 the Junior Redmen Central ended up tied for first place, the volleyball team from Central Huron Secon- point differential gave Stratford Central the easier opponent in the semi-finals. Central Huron had to summon all of its reserve to turn back a tough Madill team, doing so by scores of 15-11 and 15-6. This gave the Redmen an automatic berth in the WOSSA tournament later this month. Stratford Central breezed through their semi-final against Mitchell, thus setting the stage for the championship match. What promised to be a close match never materialized; however, as the Redmen literally ran out of steam and bowed out to Stratford in two straight games.
