Building At Standstill - Except for the
building of a new $100,000 mini -mall this fall,
1981 would have gone down as one of the
worst years on record for building since the
depression in Clinton.
Not one new house was built in Clinton this
year, and except for the mini -mall, only
some renovations were carried out, reports
Tom Chuter, the town's building permit
issuer.
Huronview Residents Get $10,000 Grant
From New Horizon - A group of retiredpeo-
ple at Huronview will receive a new
Horizons grant for $10,364 Health and
Welfare Minibter Monique Begin announced
last week.
Huronview Residents Council will expand
on existing programs to included sing-
songs, musical entertainment, videotaped
movies and educational material, gourme,�
cooking and dining.
Clinton Merchants Finalize Plans For
Christmas Season - A Christmas
Blockbuster Party on Friday, November 20
will kick off the Christmas season in Clinton,
the Clinton Business and Professional
Association decided at their monthly
meeting last week.
All stores are asked to participate in the
special promotion which will see stores open
from 7 p.m. to midnight, following a closing
from 6 to 7 p.m. to mark down prices. The
party will be promoted in four area weekly
newspapers.

Carnival To Fold If No Help Comes -
There will not be a Winter Carnival in Clin-
ton this winter unless more people volunteer
to help out with the organizing, the News -
Record has learned this week.
Ruth Lombardo of Clinton, who has been
chairman of the Carnival Committee for the
past two years, said that unless more people
step forward at a planned meeting next
Wednesday, November 17, at the Clinton
Arena at 8 p.m., then the Carnival will fold.
Russell Bolton Wins Hay Title Again - It
may sound repetitous, but we are glad to
report that once again, Russell Bolton has
brought home the World Hay Championship
to Huron County.
This is the fifth year in a row that the RR1,
Seaforth farmer received his trophy at the

Mitchell A One Paper Town - J.W. Eedy
Publications and Signal Star Publishing
Ltd. have announced that with publication
of the November 11 edition, The Mitchell
Times will cease operations.
For the past four months Mitchell has
been served by two weekly papers, The
Times, published by Eedy PUblications, and
The Mitchell Advocate, published by Signal -
Star Publishing Ltd.

Collegiate Addition To Cost. More Than
Million - Preliminary plans for the voca-
tional wing of Clinton District Collegiate In-
stitute are now in the hands of provincial
and dominion authorities awaiting their ap-
proval. When this approval is received, then
the architects, Page and Street will com-
mence final blueprints, and tenders will be
called.
Estimated cost of the building is now con-
sidered to be $1,198,000 plus equipment and
architects' fee. Total cost is born through a
grant from the dominion and provincial
governments
Four Clubs Are Investigating Athletic
Group - A meeting of representatives of the
Clinton Legion, Huron Fish and Game Club,
Kinsmen and Lions Club met in the Legion
hali°last night to inquire into the possibilities
of setting up a Clinton and District Athletic
Association to promote sports of various
kinds within the area.
To be operated this year is a Bantam -
Midget town hockey league to provide
recreation for boys not in the inter -town
competition.
Clinton Auxiliary To Hospital Sees Cancer
Film - Mrs. Frank Fingland led in opening
prayer for the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary
meeting qn _Tuesday night. The film "Life is
Good" was presented by the Caridian
Cancer Society, and stressed the need for
early diagnosis.

One Of First Inmates Still In Home -
Forty-one years ago' the Huron House of
Refuge, now called Huron County Home,
was opened and one of the first to enter,
Wesley Sutton, is still an inmate. He came
as a young man of 20, driving up from Ex-
eter with a horse and buggy. He should cer-
tainly be dean of the house.
A Musical Recital - Miss Beatrice
Greene's music pupils gave a very nice
recital in the Legion rooms on Friday even-
ing last, to which the parents and a number
of friends were invited. The young people
put on about 30 different numbers and their
progress since their last recital was plainly
noticeable.
Badminton Club Organized - Winter is
about to descend upon Clinton. In-
contestable proof lies in the fact that the
Clinton Badminton Club has reorganized.
The enthusiasm shown at its initial meeting
on Friday indicates a season full of tour-
naments, fun, and food–for its members
The social committee is being -pressed into
immediate action and on Thursday, this
evening, delightful refreshments will be
provided for starving Badminton players.

Can You Read It° - With the general in-
stallation of waterworks our citizens are
becoming more familiar with metres so that
very shortly they should be able to easily
read them. Then, if the officials inadvertent-
ly make tan Beat a charge they will he arm-
ed to say: "Here you, are you right or is this
metre wrong?" An electric light metre is
much the same. Let us know in a month if
you can read either or both.
Relief Maps - The Model School Board has
purchased a set of relief maps so as to put
the equipment of the school in the very first
rank. Relief maps, with many other
etceteras, enable the youngsters of to -day to
acquire a good Working knowledge of
geography much easier than those who
studied about the earth'$ surface on the old-
fashioned apparatus of years ago.
The Guy Brothers - The show put on by
Guy Brothers famous minstrels this season
s inkeeping with -their old time reputation,
every man an artist and every act a feature.
Geo. R. Guy the King of Minstrels will be
one of the many features with these Greate
Minstrels, which appear at the town hall
next Tuesday evening.
