Holmesville UCW bazaar

HOLMESVILLE - Ken and Kaye Harris of
Hohnesville are pleased to announce the
graduation of their daughter Brenda, from
the Registered Nursing program .at Fan-
shawe College, London.
Pinning ceremonies were held on July 26
at St. Paul's Cathedral, London. Brenda has
accepted a fulltime position at Victoria
Hospital, London on the General Surgery
Ward. Brenda was a graduate of
Holmesville School and Clinton's C.H.S.S.
Worship Service was held at Holmesville
United Church on Sunday morning at 9:45
a.m. Wendy and Gary Tebbutt presented
their baby daughter Brittany for baptism,
officiating was Rev. J. Bechtel. Sam Brad-
shaw and Greg Lobb received the offering.
On November 5 the Goderich Township
hall was a busy place, the U.C.W. holding
their annual bazaar. Charlotte Norman,
President of the U.C.W., welcomed
everyone and declared the bazaar opened at
2:30 p.m. Many useful articles were for sale
including sweaters, hats, mitt sets, The pro-
duce table was well laden with fruit and
vegetables, jams and jelly. The Christmas
table had some very interesting articles.
The bake table was set out well and there
were lots of goodies to buy. The tea tables
looked lovely with everyone enjoying their
lunch.
The Goderich Township children gathered
at the Community Centre for their Annual
Hallowe'en party at which time children
played games and received bags of candy.
Judges for the evening were Mr. and Mrs.
Fran Powell.
The Enterprising Seniors met in the Com-
munity Centre in Holmesville with Bert Mc-
Creath in charge. Gertrude Trewartha—
played the piano for the opening exercises.
Charlotte, Norman read the minutes of the
last meeting and Elois Charlton gave the
card report in the place of Blanche Deeves.
The Christmas pot luck dinner will be
December 4 at 12:30 noon. Cards and Shuffle
board were enjoyed.
The Enterprising Seniors were pleased to
sell their quilt which was on display at the
recent bazaar in Holmesville to Olive Bell,
who herself put many stitches in the quilt.
Downtown businesses
hold Sunday open house

HENSALL - The Christmas Spirit was in
evidence Sunday in downtown Hensall. A
great number of area residents visited the
Christmas Open House at The Birch Tree,
The Flower Basket and Spinning Wheel,
where they enjoyed hospitality and
bargains.
The Village Walk celebrated their Grand
Opening on Friday with a ribbon cutting
ceremony followed by refreshments.
Volland's Meat Market is celebrating
their second anniversary. Congratulations
Keith and Dorothy on being part of Hensall's
thriving .downtown,.. .
Hockey Youth
Hensall's two youngest hockey teams
began their season schedules on Saturday.
he Tykes began by trouncing their biggest
IIIFAvals Huron Park 9-3 in the morning. In the
evening the Novice teams soundly defeated
Goderich by a score of 9-2. Congratulations
to all the boys and coacheson a great start.
UCW news
The November meeting of Unit III U.C.W.
was held last Tuesday afternoon with Marg
Upshall presiding..
A work bee was held in the morning for
the marking of old-fashioned Christmas
decorations.
The worship was conducted by Beatrice
Munn. Plans were finalized for the bazaar
on Friday, November 21 at 3 p.m. Loretta
Riley gave the study. Pearl Taylor read
several poems. The December meeting was
reviewed and members *ere reminded of
the Christmas gift exchange.

Horticultural Society
The Hensall and District Horticultural
Society will be holding their Christmas
Meeting on Monday, November 17 at the
Hensall United Church at 8 p.m. Everyone is
welcome to come and hear the guest
speaker, Jane Muegge, speak on Food
Preservation.
All members who are present will receive
their premium, a hyacinth bulb. A note of
thanks goes to everyone who helped clean
out the village flower beds, and preparing
them for winter.

Nan Britton opened the November
meeting of Unit IV U.C.W. The devotional
was given by Rena Caldwell.
"The roll call was answered by 14 members
and 49 visits were recorded. The offering
was dedicated by Nan Britton. Hazel Luther.
gave a reading.
The General Meeting will be December 1
with Unit IV to provide lunch. Elva Forrest
and Sadie Hoy are to continue in Church in
Society. Mabel Shirray is the representative
to the Nominating Committee, Mary Alex-
ander to Leadership Christian
Development.
Mary Alexander gave an account of a
graduate student who lived among the Inuit
and learned first hand of their fight for sur-
vival against Southern Influence.

St. James to
hold spiritual
healing seminar

MIDDLETON - Morning Prayer was held
in St. James's Middleton Anglican Church,
with Rev. A. Bell officiating. Sunday School
was held in the church hall. At offering time
Little Holly Reder presented the school of-
fering with Edward Deeves presenting the
regular offering. Ron Greidanus was the
organist.
On November 16 at St. Jame's Church,
Middleton at 2:30 p.m. there will be a
presentation and discussion on Spiritual
Healing, with Dr. Helen Relesor of the Order
of St. Luke in charge.
On November 13 the A.CW. meeting and,
penny savers pot -luck dinner will be held at
6 p.m. with the Board of Management
meeting to follow the ACW meeting and
dinner.
The White Gift Sunday twill be held on
December 7. The gifts are to include canned
food, but badly needed are such small per-
sonal items you or your children would like
to receive. These gifts will be directed to'
either Family services or Friendship House.
Cpl. Len Mills of C.F.B. Greenwood, Nova
Scotia was recently on a course in Camp
Borden and visited with the Deeves and
Becks in Collingwood.
Lois and Edward Wise Lane returned
after a holiday in Vegas!
Get well wishes go to Lilian Beakhust who
is a patient in Clinton Hospital.
Anyone wishing to go to The People's
Church in Toronto and see the very popular
presentations of the Living Christmas Tree

UCS pay tribute to falien heroes

VARNA - The United Church Women
(UCW) met on November 6 at the church.
Bernice Reid and Doris Wilson presented a
meditation on communication in the family
which was written by the UCW Hodges
Cove, Nfld.
In honor of those who made the supreme
sacrifice in the world wars, Bernice read
Col. Macrae's poem "In Flanders Fields".
Helen Taylor gave the secretary's report
and treasurer Margaret Hayterreported an
excellent financial position. Joan Beierling
read a note of appreciation from•the Bells
and Middegaals for catering their wedding.

committee. The only change in the ex-
ecutive is in the presidency. The young
women who have been asked to fill the of-
fices of president and vice-president have
not given definite confirmation that they
will act.
The ladies will cater for a supper on
December 9 for Frank Roth's patrons. The
offices at the manse have been freshly
papered and painted. Members were
reminded to save their postage stamps for
the Leprosy Mission. There was an excellent
respnaso t fho Prraol for good used
clothing. Donations of treats for shut-ins are
to be brought to the December meeting.
Former members are being invited to the
Christmas meeting and supper.
Fall hunting report
Deer hunters in the area experienced
varying degrees of success. The Chessell
party of .six got one, Paul Stephenson's par-
ty of four got two, the Ritchie camp one, and
David Turner's party got five. Bill and Jim-
my Consitt had some luck in the Parry
Sound area, but at the time of writing, it is
not confirmed how many deer were bagged.
