Setter education offered for all new hunters The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH ), Ontario's largest provin- cial conservation association, is delighted that the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has finally heeded its request for better education of all new hunters. Effective January 1, 1987, all prospective new hunters, regardless of age, will need to attend hunter education courses and pass an examination before obthining their first hunting licences. "Since, our Federation first started On- tario's hunter education program in the mid '50's, we've been telling the government the r•nnrce chnolrf he mandatory for all first- •BREAKFAST 1.99 •LUNCHEON SPECIALS •FRESH FISH DAILY •NEW YORK SIRLOIN STEAK 2/13.95 DINNERS "Live Entertainment" "BOOK -YOUR CHRISTMAS PARTIES NOW" time hunters," stated OFAH President Ken Lounsbury. "Although hunting is one of Canada's safest outdoor recreations, we should always be striving to make it even better. We welcome the new announcement, and I am sure most of our member instruc- tors are prepared to shoulder the extra workload." At the present time, only new hunters born after December 31, 1954, are obliged to take the hunter education course prior to passing their examination. Until three years ago, only persons under the age of twenty had that requirement. The Royal opens at Exhibition Place, Toronto, November 13 to 22. It's the largest indoor agricultural, show in the world. Not to be missed on a visit to the fair is the Foodland Ontario exhibit - a tasting, learn- ing and entertaining experience sponsored by Foodland Ontario and 28 of this pro- vince's agricultural marketing groups. Watch as food experts demonstrate how to prepare culinary delights with Ontario home grown products. Taste the foods being sampled at this exhibit such as fresh water caviar, a gourmet delicacy; baked beans with honey, a country classic; greenhouse vegetable salad, a winter treat; and ice cream made with goat's milk, for the kid in everyone. Discover for yourself, "Ontario - there's no taste like home". While sampling the best of the province, try the Ontario Cattleman's Association computer game, visit the maple sugar shack, put in a bid at the Variety Club Auc- tion (bid items are always a.surprise), pick up some free information pamphlets and recipe brochures or marvel at the winner of The Giant Squash Competition. Especially for kids, Georgio the Puppet will be on site to entertain every day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. When it's time to "put your feet up and relax", settle into a seat in front of the two- tiered stage. On any given day the audience can expect recipe demonstrations, games and entertainment. All this and more will be at the Foodland Ontario exhibit, Upper West Annex of the Coliseum - free with admission to the Royal.
