creases with the amount smoked, fewer and
fewer Canadians are in danger. According
to Statistics Canada, Canadian firms pro-
duced about 36 billion cigarettes in the first
eight months of 1986, compared With just
over 42 billion during the same period in

The Blyth Festival is making final preparations for their dinner auction this Saturday.
Doing the auctioning will be Richard Lobb. Mr. Lobb visited the home of John Gibson to
take a look at one of the trees he will be auctioning. This flowering tree is smaller thaw,
the one to be auctioned, but Mr. Gibson has donated and will move the larger tree to
wherever the highest bidder wishes. (Anne Narejko photo)
Aerobatics, acting, athletics
and aromas at auction
BLYTH - Are you interested in your own
private aerobatics show? Or maybe you
would like to appear as an eirtra in a CBC
television drama! Sports fans will no doubt
leap at the chance to win a private box for
eight for a Blue Jaysgame next year (with
the same location and view as the television
facilities), while cooks in the area would
welcome the opportunity to spend a day in
the test kitchens of Canadian Living
Magazine, testing recipes, watching a food
photography session and having lunch with
the staff there. All this, and more, will be on
the auction block at the Blyth Festival's
Dinner Auction at Blyth Memorial Hall on
November 8.
The auction is held every two years to
raise money for capital projects and
maintenance of Blyth Memorial Hall.
Organizers are particularly pleased with
the number of unusual donations they have
received this year. The auction audience
will have the chance to bid on a selection of
perennial herbs and plants, a personalized
sketch of one's residence, a videotaping of
personal possessions for insurance pur-
poses, a flowering tree, a weekend of dog -
sitting, 'original art works and on many,
many other kinds of merchandise and ser-
vices. "The generousity and imagination of
area merchants and citizens has been over-
whelming" says auction co-ordinator Gyle
Gundy. Auctioneer for the evening is
'Richard Lobb.
A preview of auction items and a buffet
dinner begins at 6 p.m. on November 8,
followed by the auction at 8 p.m. Tickets for
the dinner and auction are $10 in advance,
$12 at the door, and are available from any
board member dr from the box office by
calling 523-9300/523-9225 between 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. from Monday to Friday.
