St. Joseph's
celebrates
Hallowe en
• CLINTON - On October 31 the students'
council of St. Joseph's School held a Hallo-
ween party for all of the students.
The kindergarten and Grades 1 to 4
students sang spooky Halloween songs and
tried their luck bobbing for apples. They
then paraded their costumes for the judges
to decide on the best ones. The third place
winner was Juston Scott, second place went
to Jonathon Kochis and Jackie LeBeau was
judged to have the best costume.
At the end of the party everyone was given
a bag of candy.
The rest of the students, Grades 5 to 8, had
their own party. To begin their party the
principal, Ed Cappelli, told a Halloween
story around a fake fire set up in the gym.
The movie Clue was then shown and
everyone received a bag of candy.
At the end of this party there was an
assembly and a cake made by Vivian Cap-
pelli was raffled off. The lucky winner of the
cake was Dorothy Van Steelent. A jack -o -
lantern contest was also held and the Grade
3-4 class won.

Council amends
zoning bylaw
GODERICH TWP - Following a public
meeting to discuss zoning applications,
council here passed two bylaws to allow zon-
ing changes during their regular meeting on
October 20.
The two zoning changes were requested
by James Knight and Sid Bruinsma. Mr.
Knight's request was passed without
change, while Mr. Bruinsma presented a
written request noting his change would af-
fect only one lot, rather than the two he
previously requested.
Because of this deletion council moved,
"Whereas Mr. Bruinsma has requested that
his application be changed so as to delete lot
6 of Plan 540 from his request to chang the
zoning from AG 1 to AG 3; and, Whereas
council is of the opinion that his request is a
inor change, as covered by the Planning
ct - Section 34 (16) and that no further
public meeting is required on the matter,
therefore council accepts his request and
deletes lot 6 from his original application."
Council then passed a bylaw to change the
zoning bylaw.
Mike Sully was present to explain his re-
quest for severances and rezoning. His re-
quest was turned over to the Huron County
Land Division Committee.
One building permit was requested of
council and it was passed.
Accounts were ordered paid in the amount
of $174,978.74.,
More travelling
with jobs
It's said that travel broadens the mind. It
se fii shat our jobs are sending us out on
that mind -broadening road more frequently
these days. According to Statistics Canada,
Canadians took 14.6 million trips of at least
one night from January to March 1986, a rise
of 21 per cent over the figure for the same
period in 1984. The increase in business trips
during that time accounts for most of this
growth: travel on business for one night or
more increased by 77 per cent over the level
for the corresponding period in 1984.

Rev. de Valk speaks at annual meeting
The Goderich and District Pro Life Group
held its 13th annual general meeting. and
dinner on Oct. 21, at the Goderich Township
Hall in Hohnesville.
A potluck dinner was enjoyed by about 65
people. Following dinner,Mrs. Maryanne
Hogan of Kingsbridge entertained with her
lovely voice and moving lyrics.
Reverend F. Loebach, of Mitchell, in-
troduced the guest speaker for the evening,
Reverend Alphonse deValk of Toronto, a
well-known speaker for human rights in
Canada.
Reverend deValk began with a brief
history of the changing laws regarding abor-
tion in North America, beginning with the
legalization of abortion in 1969 in the United
States. Reverend deValk pointed out that for
2500 years the Hypocratic Oath, which sanc-
tifies all human life, was sworn by all doc-
tors. Again, in 1948, at the height of WW II,
the Geneva Convention held that all doctors
must take an oath to maintain utmost
respect for all human life FROM concep-
tion. In 1963, the Canadian Medical Associa-
tion still had resolution that the induction
or procurement of abortion is against CMA
ethics.
But by 1969, abortion was legalized in the
United States and by 1975• abortions were
okayed in Canada, even to referrals from
doctors.
Reverend deValk went on to say that laws
have changed with our permissive society,
where the end justifies the means, and if we
don't fight it, we will have Euthansia as
well, for if it is alright to kill life at the begin-
ning it will be alright to kill at the end.
In closing. Reverend deValk encouraged
all to continue fighting for justice for all life
an not to give up hope.
Past president, Mrs. Laurie Erb,
presented trophies to winners from this
year's Walk/Run for Life and special men-
tion was accorded to long-standing pro life
supporters.
A brief business•meeting followed with the
election of board members for the coming
year. Incoming executive are: Marc
Lalonde of Kingsbridge, President; Pauline
deJeu of Goderich, Vice. President; Virginia
Miller of RR 2 Bayfield, Secretary and Mar-
tin Kuipers of Goderich, Treasurer.
At the close of the meeting, following
question and answer with Father 'deValk,
the group was reminded that a van will be
travelling to Toronto for picket duty at the
Morgentaler abortuary every Thursday and
if anyone can go, contact Tina at 482-3028.
