Hendriks-O'Rourke
Patti Marie O'Rourke, daughter of Gwen
O'Rourke of Vanastra and Len O'Rourke of
RR4 Seaforth, and Henry Gerard Hendriks,
son of John and Corry Hendriks of RR4
Seaforth, were married in Seaforth St.
James Catholic Church on October 4. Father
C. Caruana officiated. Maidof honor was
Katie O'Leary-Swinkles of RR4 Seaforth
and bridesmaids were Vicki O'Rourke of
Clinton, sister of the bride, Gail Riehl of
Monkton, sister of the bride, Mary Hendriks
of London, sister of the groom, and Robin
Ormandy of Goderich. Flower girl was Kim-
mie Riehl of Monkton, niece of the bride.
Best man was Harry Swinkles of RR4
Seaforth and ushers were David O'Rourke
of Welland, Jamie O'Rourke of Vanastra,
both brothers of the bride, Paul Johnston of
Bluevale and Jack Hendriks of Seaforth,
brother of the groom. A reception was held
at the Seaforth Community Centre. The cou-
ple honeymooned in England, Scotland and
Whales and will reside at RRl Brucefield.

Sharon Westberg of Blyth, daughter of Earl
and Shirley Fyfe, and Dale Whitfield of RR 3
Blyth, son of Karl and Sandra Whitfield,
were married in the Blyth United Church on
August 23 with Rev. Ken Bauman of-
ficiating. Maid of honor was Connie
Westberg of Etobicoke. Bridesmaids were
Marie Barrie of Kitchener, Luann Taylor of
Blyth, Kim VanVliet of Toronto and Glenda
Howson of Blyth. Best man was Steve
Howson of Blyth. Ushers were Ken
Hesselwood of Blyth, Gord Kinahan of
Newmarket, Brian Westberg of Blyth and
Lonnie Whitfield of Wingham. Fiowergirl
was - Nicolle Whitfield of Wingham and
ringbearer was Gerrard Westberg of Blyth.
Following the wedding, a reception was held
at the Blyth and District Community
Centre.

WI 'study farm future at London conference
Protecting the Future, the theme of the
72nd Annual Convention of the London. Area
Women's Institute, aptly describes the work
that. took place. A seminar on "How will
Free Trade affect the Farm and Rural
Families" was announced by Charlotte
Johnston, Fek:ated Women's Intitutes of
Ontario President during her address. This
is sponsored by the Ontario Women's In-
stitutes and will be held on November 4 at
Guelph.
The results of this seminar will be for-
warded to the Federal Government.
As part of the 90th anniversary of
women's Institutes in 1987 a scolarship will
be set up to help Women's Institute
members further their education. The other

Women's Institute scholarships are award-
ed to 4-H members and college students.
The work of the Committee for Women's
Institutes of the Future will be voted on at
the Board meeting in November. Some of
the changes will be immediate, others
gradual. This will assist the Women's In-
stitutes face the next 90 years with the same
vigor and enthusiasm as when they were
started.
If you see Women's Institute members
wearing hats of many colors to their next
meetng it is because Joyce Canning and her
team of Rural Organizational Specialists
presented a workshop on effective thinking
using colors: Yellow being positive and con-
structive, black being the devil's advocate

The Erland Lee Museum Home commit-
tee told about the successful Harvest
Festival they recently held. This year it
featured' apples because the Erland Lee
family was the first in Canada to export the
"greening" apple to England.
The theme speaker in the evening was Jo
Hillier, Public Affairs Officer, for Atomic
Energy Canada; Nuclear Fuel Waste
Management from Pinawa Manitoba. Her
topic of Nuclear Waste, your backyard or
mine, presented the Women's Institute
members with much food for thought.
Nuclear enery was something that most
people didn't think about until she mention-
ed that a third of the lights in the banquet
hall were powered by nuclear energy.
Canada is determined to return the nuclear
waste back to the environment in a safer

on how the Butler project is doing. This pro-
ject started by the Women's Institute in Ox-
ford County is going to place pictures of true
type animals in all the school in Ontario and
then hopefully Canada. The Royal Winter

Fair this year is saluting Mr. Butler and his
paintings, and is also providing space for
this Women's Institute project. The school
children of the future will be: able to ap-
preciate the hard work of the women's In-
stitutes as they will have an accurate pic-
ture of the farm animals. Some Women's In-
stitute members have already used some of
the Ross Butler prints in agriculture
displays in area school during Agri Week.
The incoming president, Irene Richard-
son, announced that' a workshop sponsored -
by the London Area Women's Institutes
would be held on November 12 4 Wildwood
school •at 7:30 p.m. featuring ;two topics
Financial Management for Ryhal Women
and Water, a valuable Resource.
The convenors, dressed in (various na-
tional costumes, brought the message that
the future is not just dependent on what we
do in Ontario but that the other countries of
the world have a part to play too.
-' The 'over '450'members'tvYid 'attended the
convention heard many thought provoking
comments, they were praised for what they
have already done, but they also realize that
there is much more to be dyne for home and
country.
Clinton area obituaries
W. Robert Glen
W. Robert Glen of RR3 Clinton, died in
Clinton Public Hospital on October 25. He
was 65 years old.
. Mr. Glen was born in Stanley Township to
the late Edward C. and Mary Alice
(MacLaren) Glen. On August 21, 1948 he
married the former Muriel Wise of Goderich
Township in St. James Middleton Church.
Mr. Glen operated a farm and a chain saw
business in Stanley Township and was a
member of the Wesley -Willis United Church
and the Orange Lodge, LOL 710.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters:
Mrs. Douglas (Jean) Dale of RR4 Clinton
and Mrs. David (Betty) Kelly of Clinton;
and one son, Gordon, of RR5 Clinton. Also
surviving are seven grandchildren.
Mr. Glen is also survived by one Sister,
Mrs. Chester (Alice) Neilans of London.
He was predeceased by two grandsons.
The Orange Lodge held a service for Mr.
Glen on October 27. He rested at Beattie
Funeral Home, Clinton and a funeral ser-
vice was held on October 28 at Wesley -Willis
United Church with Rev. James Bechtel
officiating.
Flower bearers were Ray Cantelon, Hugh
Lightfoot, John McFarlane and Elmer
Trick. Active pallbearers were Steven Tyn-
' dali, Ron Tyndall, John Hudie, Murray
Neilans, Larry Neilans and Dan Wise.
Interment was held in Bairds Cemetery
with a graveside service. t
Irene Grimoldby
Irene Grimo y of Seaforth and former-
ly of Hullett Town-11Up, died on November
1 at the Seaforth Community Hospital. She
was 87.
Born November 19, 1898, she was the
daughter of the -late . Benjamin Riley and
Mary Ann Wright. ,She was married
February 20, 1918 to Robert Grimoldby at
the family home in Kinburn. She was a
member of Northside United Church.
Mrs. Grimoldby is } sur`vived . by one
daughter Mrs. Kenneth (Olive) Betties of
Seaforth and by -two grandsons, Paul Bet-
ties of Stanley Township and Gary Betties
of Seaforth. Also survi ng are five great
grandchildren.
She was predece ed by her husband and
by two sister an two brothers.
The family received friends at the Ball •
and Falconer Box Funeral Chapel Seaforth
and funeral service was held Monday at
Northside United Church Stith Rev. James
Vanslyke officiating.
Pallbearers were MichaelBettles, Donald
Lamont, Douglas Riley, Fted Buchanan,
William Millson and Kenneth Preszcator.
Flower bearers were Pamela Betties, Jill
Betties, Julie Betties and -ion Betties. In-
terment was in Maitlandbank Cemetery.
