Atoms begin season with
three game winning streak
On October 21 the Clinton Atoms started
the season on a winning note as they scored
a 5-2 exhibition win against Goderich.
The season was lust 18 seconds old when
Nathan Burns scored after taking a nifty
pass from Mark Livermore. Scott Shaddick
had started the play by sending a teas pass
to Livermore who set Burns up in the clear.
Goderich tied it 1-1 before the period end-
ed with Bryan Hodges scoring.
In the second period at the 4:33 mark
Chris Kennedy's wrist shot after taking a
pass from Mark Livermore found the open
corner. With only 54 seconds left in the
period Scott Wright found Bryan Watson in
the clear and his beautiful set up led to the
third Clinton goal.
In the third period hard-working
defencemiin, Jeff Oesch's screen shot elud-
ed the Goderich goaltender to give Clinton a
4-1 lead at 1:50 of the period. Three minutes
later Mark Livermore's first goal of the
season gave Clinton a comfortable 5-1 lead.
Lee Gibbings and Craig 1VIcAsh earned
assists on the Livermore goal.
Goderich closed out the scoring with
David Boyce scoring. Clinton goalies, Dave
Nahrgang and Derek Hoggarth played ex-
termely well in the 'contest.
Back in Goderich on October 23, the Clin-
ton Atoms won their second straight exhibi-
tion game over Goderich by a 5-3 count.
Mark Livermore led the Atom attack with
two goals and one assist. Single markers
were picked up by Bryan Watson, Scott
Wright and Nathan Burns.
In the first period both teams battled to a
2-2 tie. Clinton's Ryan Watson opened up the
scoring on a beautiful thirty foot wrist shot
high to the right corner after taking a pass
from Lee Gibbings at 3:52.
After Goderich tied the score, Mark Liver-
more put Clinton ahead again on a two on
one break with Chris Kennedy setting up
Livermore for the goal.
In the second period two goals by Clinton
gave the visitors a 4-2 lead. Scott Wright
scored the first one on a screen shot after
taking a pass from Jeff Oesch. Nathan
Burns picked the fourth Clinton goal as he
took Mark Livermore's pass for 'a
breakaway goal.
In the third period, Goderich's David
Boyce cut Clinton's lead to 4-3 but Liver-
more's second goal of the game at 3:45 with
Danny. Wiidfong getting the assist put the
game out of reach.
'Again, solid goal -tending by Dave
Nahrgang and Derek Hoggarth left
Goderich shooters in dismay.
On October 25, Clinton Atoms opened up
their 1986-87 regular season at Seaforth by
earning a hard fought 2-0 decision. •
Excellent goaltending by Derek Hog-
garth and Dave Nahrgang provided Clinton
with the spark they needed.
The teams played a scoreless first period
but at the 30 second mark of the second
some good forechecking by Chris Kennedy
enabled Kennedy to steal a puck off a
Seaforth stick and drill a thirty foot wrist
shot high into the left corner to give Clinton
a 1-0 lead.
This goal stood up until the third period
when a blue line shot from Jeff Oesch found
the range through a maze of players in front
a the net. Nathan Burns and Mark Liver-
more earned assists on the Oesch marker.
