United Church to host evening of music
CLINTON - October 26, choirs from six
area churches will join together for an after-
noon of choral music. This afternoon will be
under the direction of John Tuttle from
Toronto.
Mr. Tuttle graduated in 1369 from the Cur-
tis Institute of Music with a Bachelor of
Music, specializing in organ music. He then
served for two years in the United States Ar-
my as organist and choir master of the Post
Chapel at the United States Military
Academy in West Point, New York. After
that he was organist and choirmaster of the
First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.
In 1975, Mr. Tuttle moved to Toronto as
organist and choirmaster of St. Paul's
Church. He founded the Saint Paul's
Singers, who have won national.
competitions.
In addition to his duties at St. Paul's
Church, he is organist at the University of
Toronto, teaches at' the Faculty of Music,
conducts the University of Toronto's Hart
House Chorus, founded the Exultate
Chamber singers, and is Music Director of
the Canadian Children's opera Chorus.
Mr. Tuttle is also active on several com-
mittees for organ music and gives
seminars, master classes, and plays
concerts.
The culmination of the choral workshop
will be a concert held at Ontario Street
United Church in Clinton beginning at 7:30.
This concert should be a superb evening of
sacred music, selections by each choir par-
ticipating, and ending in a grand chorus of
all voices under the direction of Mr. Tuttle.

CLINTON - On Oct. 8 the Vanastra Chris-
tian Church Ladies' Coffee Break Bible
Study gathered to listen to a thought provok-
ing subject, Liturgy and Worship, presented
by Rev. Homer Samplonius of the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church.
Some excerpts and thoughts from his talk
include Worship is God and His people in
dialogue not dialgoue as we see it, that is
strictly unbiblical. Therefore we do best to
say: Worship is God Speak acting' (word
and deed) and the congregation Speak acts
in response to God.
Stress was put on the importance of the
people participating in songs of praise,
hymns, musical items, responsive reading,
or prayer fitting in with the theme of the
sermon.
It was of great interest to note the changes
throughout history in the way people wor-
shipped. It was mentioned that before man
fell into sin there was.. no need of worship.
Through sin, man separated himself from
God.

services are conducted, seeing the best of
the Old Testament, and New Testament ser-
vices of worship, maintaining a healthy and
much needed balance.
Each person present had received a two
page study with bible references.
It was a fruitfull meeting, with a discus-
sion following. Rev. Samplonius Othen clos-
ed the meeting with Thanksgiving and
prayer. Every one then enjoyed a tasty pot-
luck dinner. Also a display of handmade
goods from various mission fields, was set
up by Helen Dykstra. Items could be bought,
and proceeds would be for Christian
Reformed World Relief.

Produce Sale
On October 11, the "produce and bake
sale" was successful. Baked goods and pro- °
duce were donated by Clinton and Vanastra
Church members as well as several mer-
chants and a good number of people dropped
by to pick up a bargain.
The amount of $152 was raised, which will
go towards crafts and other material for the
different youth projects in the church. The
ladies hope to repeat a sale next year at the
same time. +'f

members use and what they use it for. They
then discussed the different kinds of milk
and their contents.
The recipes they had to make were hot

The third meeting of Kippen 3 Milk Maids
was held at Brucefield Church on October7.
As the recipes for this evening took awhile to
cook they tackled the kitchen duties first.
While the cheese souffle and mini cheese
cakes were baking in the oven they review-
ed the meeting.
They had a taste test of nine different
kinds of cheese, and talked about the dif-
ferent types of cheeses available. and their ,
