CLINTON - The Afternoon Unit of Ontario
Street Church met in the Ladies' Parlor with
25 members present and one visitor.
Marion Powell opened the meeting and
turned the meeting over to Vera MacDonald
and her group.
A reading and a poem were given by Edith
Wright. A hymn was sung by all with. Leila
Johnston at the piano. The Scripture was
read by Bernice Brown. Lula Merrill lead in
prayer. •
The Offering . was takeni by Lula and
dedicated by Vera MacDonald.
A skit, Parable of Thanksgiving, was done
by Edith Wright, Lula Merrill, Bernice
Brown and Vera MacDonald.
Donna Woodall sang a solo.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
and adopted.
There were 37 home calls and 27 hospital

14 in the Ladies' Parlor. A vote of thanks to
Leila Webster for organizing the bus trip
was given.
The Thank Offering is to be held in Wesley
Willis Church October 19 at 7:30 p.m.
The Afternoon Unit has flowers for
.November. Ethel McPherson and her group •
are in charge -of the worship and program
for November.
Marion closed the meeting with prayer. A
lunch was served by Bernice Jewson and
her group.

Myrtle Irene Layton
Myrtle Layton of Clinton died in London's
St. Joseph's Hospital on October 18. She was
83.
Born on February 3, 1903 in Goderich
Township, she was the daughter of the late
Francis Henry Powell and Elizabeth
(Elliott) Powell.
Mrs. Layton attended school in Clinton
and, then attended normal school in Strat-
ford to become, a teacher. Over her career
she taught at the Home Schbol, at Sum-
merhill and at schools in both Goderich and
Tuckersmith Townships.
On October 14, 1934 she married Elliott
Layton at the Ontario Street United Church
Parsonage.
After their marriage they lived in Clinton
for three years, and then moved to the farm
on Highway 4 in Tuckersmith Township,
where they resided until 1965.. They then
moved to Brucefield where they lived until
moving to their present home in Clinton in
1980.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law,
Judy, and her husband Tony Hutchings of
Bayfield s well as by three grandchildren;
Joanne d Sheryl Layton and Ronald
Hutching r
She .is naso survived by her sister Mrs.
Gordon (Luella) Cudmore of Clinton and her
brother Francis Powell of Clinton.
Mrs. Layton waS predeceased by her son
Roger Layton, her grandson Dwayne Hut-
chings and two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Ed-
na) Potter and Mrs. Roy (Viola) Tyndall.
Funeral services wereoheld on October 21
at the. Ball and Falconer Funeral Home with
Rev. David Woodall of the Ontario Street
United Church officiating.
Pall bearers were Lorne Tyndall, Murray
Tyndall, Frank Potter, Larry Powell,
Richard LeBeau and Robert LeBeau and the
flower bearers were Susan Flynn and Lori
Zwikirsch.
Interment at Baird's Cemetery.
Walter Brock Olde
Walter Olde of Clinton died in the Clinton
Public Hospital on October 18.

Born on December 10, 1909 in Yarmouth
Township he was the son of Arthur John
Cloake Lagg Olde and Bertha (Cavanaugh)
Olde. -
Mr. Olde became a teacher upon gradua-
tion and taught in Sudbury, and then
became principal at the Bothwell Continua-
tion School in Bothwell, Ontario. In 1942 he
moved to Clinton where he became head of
the science department and taught some
shop courses. He taught at Central Huron
Secondary School for 29 years before retir-
ing in 1971. '
On December 26, 1940 he married'
Florence Evelyn Jones at Mrs, Oldeis home
in Delaware Township.
Mr. Olde was involved in many activities
in the community. H$vas an elder of the
Ontario, Street United Church, a past clerk
of Session, a representative for OSSTF for
this district, a past member of the Clinton
Library Board and a director of the CNIB.
He is survived by his wife and his
daughter Mrs. Andrew (Nancy) Debreceni
of Oakville. He is also survived by three
'grandchildren, Michael, Peter and Susan
and by neices and nephews. •
Mr. Olde was predeceased by his sister,
Mrs. Harvey (Vivian) Liddle and by . two
brothers; Francis and Leonard.
Funeral services were held on October 20
at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home with
Rev. David Woodall of the Ontario Street
United Church officiating.
Pall bearers were Thomas Olde, Leon
Denniss, Albert White, William Gibbings,
Allan Jewson and Roy Wheeler while the
flower bearers were Donald Crich, Leonard
Boyce and George Levis.
Interment at Clinton Cemetery.
Grace V. Addison
On October 16, Grace Addison of Huron -
view and formerly of Clinton died at the
Huronview Home For The Aged. She was 80
years old.
Born on May 24, 1906 in Londesboro, she
was the daughter of Joseph Addison and
Margaret (Norrison) Addison.
She is survived by her sister, Gladys Ad=
dison of Sarnia and her brother, Alec Ad-
dison of Clinton. She is also survived by her
nephews Cameron and Robert and her
nieces Sandra and Margaret Jean.
Funeral services were held on October 18
at the Beattie Funeral Home with Rev.
James Bechtel officiating.
Interment at Clinton Cemetery.
Beatrice Evelyn Shropshall
Beatrice Evelyn. Shropshall of 52 Bristol
Terrace, Wingham, died in Wingham and
District Hospital on October 11.
Mrs. Shropshall was born on June 27, 1909
in Turnberry Township to the late Norman
and Annie (Free) Baker. She, received her
education at SS 11 Turnberry, and worked at
the local glove factory before leaving the
work force'to become a wife and mother.
She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican'
Church, Wingham, and the Ladies' Aux-
iliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch
180 Wingham.
On May 23, 1929 she married Leonard
Shropshall in St. Paul's Anglican Church.
He predeceased her in 1962.
Surviving Mrs. Shropshall are Jean and
Harold King of Wingham; Fred and Ruth
Shropshall of Clinton and Laura and
Howard Potticary of Hamilton. Also surviv-
ing are 11 grandchildren, 21 great grand-
children, one brother, - Howard Baker of
Wingham and three sisters, Mrs. Frank
(Adeline) Green of Stoney Creek, Mrs. John
(Jean McKay of Wingham and Mrs. TAD
(Gwen) McKinney of Collingwood.
She was predeceased by her sisters,
Arline, Lillian and Eva as well as brothers
Tom and Gordon and her daughter, Mrs.
Robert (Sharon) Sangster of Wingham.
A memorial service was held by the
Legion Ladies' Auxiliary on October 12 at
the McBurney Funeral Home. Wingham. A
funeral service was conducted on October 13
by Rev. Douglas G. Madge. Interment
followed in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bradley King, Donald
Shropshall, Rick Shropshall, Brian Shrop-
shall, Bob Sangster and Leon Sangster.
Floral tributes were carried by Jim Shrop-
shall and Allan Harrison.
John Peter Wild
John Peter Wild of Goderich died at his
residence on Monday, October 6. He was 69.
A farmer in Bayfield, he was a member of
St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in
Goderich and a member of Father Stephen
Eckert Council Knights of Columbus No.
5289, Seaforth.
He was born in Bayfield on August 5, 1917
to Valentine Wild and the former Agnes
O'Sullivan, both deceased.
'His wife is the former Pheobe Anne
Bedard. Also surviving are sons Joseph of
Bayfield, Peter and his wife Wendy of.
Bayfield, and Patrick of London. Also,
daughters Rosemary and husband Don Cor-
riveau of Goderich, Barbara Desjardins of
Goderich and Theresa Wild of London.
He has two brothers, Joseph and Louis
Wild both of Clinton and one sister, Vera
(Mrs. Oscar Priestap) of Clinton. He was
predeceased by a sister, Mary Etue.
Also surviving are his grandchildren,
Sheila and Bryan Corriveau, Paula,
Richard and Michael Desjardins.
Funeral Mass was held at St: Peter's
Roman Catholic Church, Goderich orr
Wednesday, October 8, with Rev. Joseph
Hardy officiating.
Prayers were held on Tuesday night,
followed by a Knights of Columbus
Memorial Service at the McCallunf 'and
Palla Funeral Home. Knights oki Columbus
formed a Guard of Honor at the church.
Pallbearers were Stephen Bedard, Gilbert
DeSchutter, Carol DeSchutter, Doyle
Talbot, Paul Priestaf and Bill Wild.

Rev. Simmons will leave St. Paul's

CLINTON - Rev. Gordon Simmons, rector
of St. Paul's Anglican Church here, an-
nounced to his congregation on October 19,
the news of his appointment as rector of the
Canon Davis Memorial Anglican Church in
Sarnia. His appointment becomes effective
on December 1.
Rev. Simmons and his wife Beth, and
their two daughters Mary Elizabeth and
Pamela moved to Clinton in January 1983,
and have become popular members of the
community.
Prior to his appointment to the two-point
parish of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Clin-
ton, and St. Thomas Anglican Church,
Seaforth, Rev. Simmons served as rector of
St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in
Kitchener, and at the historic St. Peter's
Anglican Church in Tyrconnel.
On behalf of St. Paul's congregation, Bob
Campbell, the People's Warden, offered
their congratulations, appreciation and
gond wishes.
