Burkholder's Auto Body, owned by Bill Burkholder, had a chimney fire which was kept under control, avoiding it to spread throughout the shop. Un- fortunately, a"new chimney is now required. Thanksgiving Studies With this having been the Thanksgiving weekend, the Grade 8 class at Blyth Public School studied it from a different aspect last week. Throughout the week, they studied the pioneers by watching various films and lessons, observing the life and times of our ancestors. Kathy Bromley shared her bread - making technique with them on Thursday, showing them the various stages it goes through from the start to the finished product. On Friday morning, under the supervision. WI roll call By Dora Shobbrook LONDESBORO - The WI consumer af- fairs meeting was held on October 8. The meeting was opened with the Ode and 0' Canada with Genevieve Allen at the piano. President Margaret Anderson welcomed all and the roll call was to name a small ele,_tric appliance the women would not want to be without. Sixteen members answwered the roll call with three visitors present. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary -treasurer, Alice Buchanan. Correspondence received included a thanks from the Nesbitt family, and a letter asking for support for the Huron Day Care Board. It was moved to donate $25 to this cause, with the 'treasurer's report showing a balance of $578.12. The president thanked thoses who helped at the Huronview Bazaar. Helen Lawson reported, on rally number 35 for the WI which was held in Walton on October 6 with 106 present. Their theme was "peace be with us." Marjorie Duizer accepted the 4-H WI bursery for Lisa. The speaker was Mr. Penn. Lois Elliott also reported that next year the rally will be held in Londesboro on October 5. The committee moved to have a card par- ty on the first Friday available. Social News Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Ament spent a few days with -Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hoggart at their cottage at Lurgan Beach and celebrated Stewart's birthday with a surprise birthday party last week. istance Euchre Euchre was held for the third week on Thanksgiving evening with enough par- ticipants out to fill 11 tables. The high lady for the evening was Pearl Bromley, while Millar Richmond was the high man. Rena Watt had the low score for the ladies and the men's low score was taken by Hazel Reed of Londesboro, playing as a man. For the most lone hands in the evening, Bernice McClinchey was the winner for the ladies and Len Shobbrock was the men's win- ner. The special prize was won by Marian Haggitt of Auburn. Euchre returns again Monday at 8 p.ni. at the Blyth Memorial Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. Don't forget that Lost Heir has resumed again for another season. It is held every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the town hall. Plan on attending for an evening of fun and relaxation. The culture affairs meeting on November 12 will have the guest speaker Jane Whitney from the Blue Water Centre for young of- fenders. Each member may bring a guest. Dora Shobbrook gave a reading and the meeting was closed. Lunch was served by Marjorie Anderson, Romona Jameison and Margaret Taylor. Explorers On October 8, Expedition Number 3 was started with an apple treat provided by Margaret Medd. Mrs. Taylor gave a reading and a collection was taken. Mrs. Horbanuik than took the roll call by asking which 6n members were having turkey for Thanksgiving. The group's craft was making candy turkeys, and the rest of the meeting wag spent decorating the church for Thanksgiv- ing Sunday. The meeting was closed with the singing. United Church Greeting members to the United Church on September 12 were Rev. Snihur and Jack Lee, while the ushers were Len Archam- bault, Allen Bosman, Don McGregor and Dennis Wilts. Rev. Snihur lead the hymn sing before the service with Gail Lear at the piano: ' The announcements given 'included the fact that the Bible study will be held on Oc- tober 17 at 1:15 p.rn. in the manse. There will be no Sunday School on September 19 as it is the church anniversary. The Snell fami- ly singers will perform following the service and the photo directories will be handed out. At 7:30 p.nr. Rev. Stan McDonald will be the guest preacher. Children's time was held with junior teachers Theresa and Melanie Knox. The scriptures were read and the sermon was given. Rev. Snihur then thanked the Ex- plorers for decorating the church. Cross Country team This year's cross country team has been practising extremely hard every day Nip the cross country tournament on October 22. The winners of the in -school race on October 9 were: Midget girls Lyndsey Anderson, Pauline Huisinga, Ker- rie Szusz. Midget boys Jamie Riley, Scott Leonhardt, Paul Beureman. Junior girls First place went to Sara Gyons, second wept to Lisa McCormick and third was An- nette Vincent. Junior boys Cris Kennedy won first, Tom Nott placed second and Tony Vunderli was third.
