Municipalities should provide input
By Alan Rivett
In light of the constant vandalism at
Tiger Dunlop's Tomb near Goderich,
Huron County Council has passed a motion
to look into the possibility of moving the
site.
At the council meeting on October 2,
Claus Breede, the director. of the Huron
County Pioneer Museum which is respon-
sible for the upkeep of the site, said the
vandalism has been a ongoing problem at
the historical site north' of Goderich.
He reported that two of the reinforced
concrete benches at the site have been
destroyed and the flag stolen from the pole
as well as steel cables which stretch along
the posts in the parking area removed
from their mounts. Also, he said the
equivalent of two cases of beer bottles are
routinely removed from the tomb site.
"The steel cable guard rails in the park-
ing lot are constantly being removed
which means we should put in steel railing
which is more durable. As for the concrete
benches, it appears like someone took the
labor and the time to slash at the benches
with a sledgehammer.
"Even though we've re -designed the flag
pole where it would take a 40 -foot ladder to
reach the flag, it is still being stolen," Mr.
Breede told council:
He emphasized that his request to coun-
cil is only to investigate the possibility of
moving the site and not to take immediate
action.
Colborne Township Reeve Russell Ker-
nighan concurred with the motion, stating
that the historical site is as important to
the outlying municipalities as it is to
Goderich. If council decides to move the
site, he said that neighboring
municipalities should be involved in the
decision
"I can see the advantages and disadvan-
tages of moving the tomb. But, I think
council should be very careful about the
decision and I think the area
municipalities should be involved in it,"
said Mr. Kernighan.
In the interim, Mr. Breede says he has
contacted the Goderich Detachment of the
OPP and has assurances that the police
will make more frequent checks on the
site.
Facilitator training offered
Women Today is now full swing into the
Women Being Well Project. This is a project
funded by the Health Promotion Directorate
of Health and Welfare Canada.
One main endeavour in this project is to of-
fer a free facilitator training course which
runs for 6-8 weeks beginning with a Friday
evening and Saturday session.
Women taking this course will gain skills in
organizing and establishing groups as well as
knowledge and resources in contemporary
womens health issues.

Following the course, trainees will receive
support from Women Today's ProgramCCoor-
dinator, Marg Crane in preparation and
research into their particular area of interest.
Some funding is available to the trained
facilitators to get their groups established.
If you have an interest in working with other
women to explore and improve mental and
physical well being, investigate this program.
Applications for the fall training can be ob-
tained from the Women Today office at 52
Huron Street, Clinton or by phoning 482-9706.
Darren Stevenson and Darrell Lavis played a modern medley with their guitar and

About 25 students from the school par-
ticipated in the Pro Life Walk-a-Thon on Oc-
tober 4. The 16 km. run or walk was from
Godericleto Clinton, or vice versa. They set
out at 8 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. it began rain-
ing. The people who finished the walk in the
rain deserve a lot of credit. All those who
took part really believe in what they are do-
ing to stop abortion.
Sandra VanderWal, Grade 8.
Read-a-Thon
The students are busy reading. For seven
weeks they are in a read-a-thon to earn
money for sets of the World Book En-
cyclopedia. Seven weeks of reading, seven
books and seven sponsors per book is each
student's goal.
This will raise $24.50 to help pay for a
classroom set. Medals can be earned for
reading more.

Thanksgiving Assembly
On October 10 a festive mood was in the
school. All students brought foodgiftsto be
given to needy families of the community.
At a school assembly, everyone enjoyed: •
student singing, some drama, choral speak-
ing and instrument playing. Scripture
passages'were also read. The gym was well -
decorated by the Grade 8 class.
The assembly closed in prayer and all
were wished a truly thankful weekend of
praising God for His many great and good
gifts to us.
