Football Iledmen suffer first loss
The Central Huron Redmen suffered their
ftrSt loss of the season last Thursday when
the played the Goderich Viking's in
Goderich.
Goderich won the coin toss, elected to
receive the kickoff and mounted an im-
pressive drive down the field that
culminated in an ewarly 8-0 lead.
The Redmen replied quickly with a score
of their own as Jeremy Ten Hag passed to
Darryl Hemingway, but failed to convert on
the two point attempt.
The Vikings took the kickoff and again
truned to their ground game to move the
ball. The Clinton defence adjusted and slow-
ed down the Goderich offence. However,
they were unable to stop the attack and
again yielded a touchdown.
Goderich failed to convert and kicked off
to the Redmen. Again the Clinton offence
rose to the challenge, sending Steve Van
Den Dool on a 60 yard cut back run to close
the score up to 14-12.
The half ended with an impressive goal
lin'' stand by the Redmen, denying the Vik-
ings three times in a row.
The third quarter was scoreless, but early
in the fourth quarter Goderich again got on
the board with a touchdown and a single
point conversion.
Clinton played hard to get back in the
game, but failed on a desperate fake punt at-
tempt that allowed Goderich their final
score late in the fourth quarter.
The Redmen expect to get back on the
winning track when they host Exeter's
junior team on October 10.
Seniors travel to Blue Devils tournament
On October 4, the CHSS seniors traveled to
Mitchell to compete in the annual Mitchell
Blue. Devils vcolleyball tourlaament.
The tournament operated with two pools
of four teams each and some of the best
teams from Western Ontario were present.
•
After a month of inactivity, the Clinton Pee Wee girls came back to become tournament
Champions. Team members in the back row, from left to right are Gene Powell (coach),
Debbie Draper, Megan Hodgins, Lloyann Adams, Monica Meade, Nicole Garon, Lisa
Beattie, Sharon Hollinshead, Kerry Cox and John Meade (coach). In the front row, from
left to right, are Angela Reid, Lori Powell, Cherie Carter, Chas Colquhoun, Julie Verbeek
and Dawn Powell. Absent from the photo are Christa Royal, Stacy Hicks and Tracie
Buruma. The team crest will be arriving at a later date.
In their first match, the Redmen dropped
both of their games to West Elgin by 15-10
and 15-12 scores.
They met Listowel in the second match
and blitzed there 15-0 in the first game, but
dropped the second 15-11.
In the final game of the round robin, the
Redmen met the eventual winners of the
tournament , Lord Dorchester, and defeated
them 15-12 in the first game but dropped the
second 15-12.
This qualified the Redmen in third posi-
tion in their pool for the consolation portion
of the tournament.
In the semi-final of -the consolation, the
Redmen defeated a rather inept Stratford
Northwestern team 15-3 and 15-4.
However, the host team, Mitchell, won the
finals of the cosolation by 15-11 _and17-15
scores. •
Overall the tournament was a worthwhile
outing for the Redmen. Shawn Lester con-
tinued his fine play to date and Steve Ryan
came off the bench to play very well for the
locals. The next league is in St. Marys next
'week.
