W ammes John G. Wammes, RR 1 Clinton, died Monday, September 29 at Clinton Public Hospital. Mr. Wammes was born in Culemborg, Netherlands on March 3, 1915 to parents Adrianus and Cornelia (DeKruyf) Wam- mes. He was married on January 20, 1943 in Culemborg, Netherlands, to Maria Van Raay who survives her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Wammes came to Canada in 1949, settling first in the Chatham area where they lived until 1954. For a brief period of six months thay lived in the Dublin area. In 1955 they bought the farm on lot 12 Concession 7 in Mullett Township where they farmed until their retirement. The couple still resided there at the time of Mr. Wam- mes death. Mr. Warrunes was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Clinton. He belonged to the Benelux Club and was a member .of the board of directors for the Windmill Garden Apartments in Stratford. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Leo ( Corry) Sanders, RR 4 Brussels; Mrs. Marris (Tina) Bos, RR 2 Seaforth; and Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Brindley, RR 1 Holyrood; two sons, Adrian of RR 2 Seaforth and John Jr. of RR 1 Clin- ton; four brothers in Canada, Case and Gerry, both of Blenheim, Adrian of Goderich and William of Bothwell; and four brothers in Holland, Fried, Martin, Antone and Theo. He was predeceased by his parents, one daughter Ria and one brother Hank. The funeral service was held Thursday, October 2 at St. Joseph's Church, Clinton, with the Rev. John Pinta officiating. Inter- ment was in Clinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were two nephews, Neil Wammes and Mar- tin Van Raay, and Carol Merner, John tSegeren, Henry Klaver and Joseph Van Valkengoed. Ball and Falconer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Eleanor Louise McKenzie Miss Eleanor Louise McKenzie, Clinton and formerly of Hamilton, died Tuesday, September 30 in Clinton Public Hospital. She was 90. Born in Clinton on July 25, 1896 to parents Thomas and Matilda (Alexander) McKen- zie, Miss McKenzie left Clinton in 1933 to go to Hamilton where she lived until February 1983. She was employed all her working years as a bookkeeper and office manager for Robert Jones Lumber Company. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Huronic • Rebekahs, No. 306, Clinton. She. is survived .by one brother,,. John A. McKenzie and his wife" -Margaret of Regina; three sisters-in-law Mrs. Robert (Adeline) McKenzie of Clinton, Mrs. George (Edna) McKenzie of Hamilton and Mrs. Thomas (Alice) McKenzie, Toronto; two neices Mrs. James (Helen) Cooper, Clinton and Mrs. Jeanne Gardiner of Hamilton; four nephews, Edwin McKenzie and his wife Hawley of Caledon East, Wilford McKenzie and his wife Evelyn of Toronto, Robert (Bert) McKenzie and his wife Beverley of Regina and Malcolmm McKenzie and his wife Vera of Hamilton. She was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, Robert, George and Herbert McKenzie and by two nephews, John McKenzie Jr. and Douglas McKenzie. Funeral service was at the Ball and Filter Queen "In The Heart OI Downtown Verne" 482-7103 Falconer Funeral Home Ltd. in Clinton on Thursday, October 2 with the Rev. William Barber officianting. The committal service was held at the funeral home. William Calvin Robinson William Calvin Robinson, RR 1 Belgrave, died at home Sunday, September 28 after a long illness. He was 75. Born in East Wawanosh Township to Thomas and Maude (Beatle) Robinson, he was married' in May 1940 at Whitechurch to Jean Purdon of West Wawanosh who sur- vives him. Mr. Robinson was a farmer and a member of Calvin -Brick United Church. Surviving besides his wife are his children, Garry and his wife Myrna of Lon- don and ondonand Ray of East Wawanosh; two grand- daughters, Sandee and Chantel Robinson of London; four brothers, George of Kitchener, Ross of Auburn, Mason of Wingham and Roy of RR 1 Belgrave; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Margaret) Taylor of Belgrave and Ruth Coyne of Windsor. He was predeceased by three brothers, Clayton, Frank and Charlie, and by one sister, Mrs. Joe (Elva) Thompson, Goderich. Funeral service was Tuesday, September 30 at McBurney Funeral Home with the Rev. John G.Roberts officiating. Interment was in Wingham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leonard Robinson, Bob Gordon, David Phillion,, Perrie Holmes, Cameron Robinson and Bob Sinclair. Flowerbearers were Tom Robinson, Steven Robinson, Phil Thompson and Brian Jamieson. James Gordon McPhee A well known Goderich resident, Jim McPhee, died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on October 5, 1986. He was 58 years old. Born on December 3, 1927 in Colborne Township, he was the son of Mrs. Edith (McManus) McPhee of.. Goderich and the' late Gordon Oliver McPhee. He lived in Colborne Township where he operated a dairy farm at Lot 9 Concession 8. On June 30, 1951 he married the former Mary Noreen McKay at St. George's Anglican Church in Goderich. They made their home in Colborne Township until 1977 when they retired from farming and moved to Goderich. There Mr. McPhee worked as a custodian at Goderich District Collegiate Institute. Along with his wife and mother, Mr. McPhee is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley and her husband Gary Haist of Clinton, also Judith and her'hus- band Dairid 1VIar15i1' of:;G'gderich; and grand- daughter Mary Caylan Hoist. Also surviving are three sisters, Nora (Mrs. Ross Pennington) of Penticton, B.C., Joan (Mrs. L. A. Biddie) of Toronto and Jean Brown of Lambeth, as well as 11 nieces and nephews. Mr. McPhee was predeceased by his father, Gordon, by one son James Bruce, and by one brother Thomas. Funeral services were held on October 8 at North Street United Church, Goderich where Mr. McPhee was a member. Rev. Robert O. Ball officiated at the service. Mc- Callum and Palla Funeral Home, Goderich was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Pall bearers were Mr. McPhee's six nephews, Tom and Scott Biddie, Jim and Tom Brown and Kevin and Dan McKay. Munnings-Cartwright Londesboro United Church was the scene September 13 for the wedding of Carol Cart- wright, Clinton, daughter of Howard and Marjorie Cartwright, RR 1 Londesboro, and Benjamin Munnings, Clinton, son of Wilfred and Hilda Munnings, Clinton. The Rev. Dave Snihur officiated for the ceremony. Maid of honor was Ruth Munnings, sister of the groom, Clinton. Bridesmaids were Ruthann Russell, friend of the bride, Clin- ton, and Lisa Cartwright, sister-in-law of the bride, RR 1 Londesboro. Flowergirl was An- nette Davison, friend of the bridal couple, RR 2 Clinton. Groomsman was Tim Lowry, cousin of the groom, Vanastra. Ushers were Tim Munnings, brother of the groom, Clin- ton, and Neil Cartwright, brother of the bride, RR 1 Lop'tsboro. Following a recep- tion at Goderieh Township Hall, Holmesville, the couple enjoyed a wedding trip to the Toronto area. Mr. and Mrs. Mun- nings are residing at 206 Albert Street, Clin- ton. (photo by Gary Walden, Blyth) Vanastra Church News Christian .Journey theme The 25th annual Rally of West Huron Region of the Huron -Perth Presbyterial United Church Women was held at Nile United Church on Sept. 30. Seventy-three ladies responded to the roll call. The theme, "Our Christian Journey - three steps forward and two back," was em- phasized throughout. Hazel McMichael, president of West Huron region, opened the meeting with a poem, "God is Our Guide". Phyllis Scott of Nile led in the singing of favorite hymns. Shirley Dustow accom- panied at the piano. Beth Rutledge, president of Nile UCW gave a warm welcome to all present. Alma Langford of Exeter, president of Huron -Perth Presbyerial UCW addressed the group and made announcements. The annual meeting will be in Mitchell on Jan. 26, London Conference will be in Lon- don in April and workshops on the 1867-77 study theme, "Confessing Our Faith", are to be held throughout the district in October and November. The special events is. at Pearce Williams Christian Centre on Oct. 6. The president asked the ladies to take part in the boycott of South African products and war -games, the celebrations about the 25th anniversary of UCW and to widen their goals with concern for the less fortunate throughout the world - especially the refugees. Grace Drummond of Exeter, treasurer of Huron -Perth Presbyterial presented her report for 1986 and the proposed budget for 1987. Susan Howson of Blyth, Literature Con- venor for the Presbyterial, read a story from, "Life and Death", one of the many books in her display. A thought-provoking skit, "The Costly Life", was performed by Dora Alton, Ruth Alton, Belle Hackett, Betty Ritchie and Marion Zinn of Trinity Ashfield. A musical interlude followed with pianist Irene Milliah of Auburn. The Bible Study, "How to keep going for- ward - without slipping back' was introduc- ed by Evelyn Treble of Benmiller. Four groups led by Phyllis Bogie, Phyllis Feagan, Phyllis Fisher and Evelyn Treble discussed bible teachings about Denial, Devotion, Doubt and Duty. Luncheon was served by the ladies of Nile UCW. Afternoon worship was conducted by Blyth UCW with Evelyn Smith, Evelina Webster and Susan Howson taking part in the service. The offering was received by Elaine Hanna, Margaret Hilderbrand, Wan- da Jefferson and June Robinson of Don- nybrook UCW and donated to Camp Menesetung. Shirley Keller, General Manager of Signal Star Publishing, was the guest speaker. She was introduced by Jane Errington of Dungannon. ' Shirley followed the theme of the day with her novel presentation of Exodus. The soon - forgotten joys and the long periods of discontent of the Israelites were compared to those of modern people on their, "Chris- tian Journey". Two duets, "The Saviour is Waiting" and "In a Monastery Garden" were rendered by Shirley MacMillan on the saxophone and Joan Henwood at the piano. Both are from North St. UCW. The roll call, "Footsteps on the Journey", was answered by the local presidents. Dora Alton of Trinity Ashfield extended an invitation to the 1987 Rally at that church. Mary Currell of Victoria St. UCW thanked all who were responsible for this splendid time of Christian fellowship and education. Phyllis Cox of Holmesville UCW recorded the events of the day.
