CHSS elects student council
By Dawn Hunking.
CLINTON — Last year's student council
at CentrarHuron Secondary School (CHSS) ,
led by Dave Stevenson - president, Don
Hearn - vice-president, Lisa Forbes -
secretary, had a very successful year and
this one promises to be even better.
This year's student council consists of
Tracey Potter - president, Ron Ladd - vice-
president, Nina Potter - secretary, and
Jeanette Keys - Treasurer.
This year, they plan to have several fund
raising campaigns with the first one star-
ting later this fall. They will be selling
oranges and grapefruit which will be
delivered in time for Christmas. Last year's
student council launched the same cam-
paign last year and it proved to be very
successful.
All the money that is raised from these
fund raising campaigns goes towards pay-
ing for school activities.
This year's student council hopes to have
other events such as Christmas events,
Valentines events, a winter carnival day
and also 'several night dances. They also
hope to have a night dance with a live band.
President Tracy Potter says she hopes to
make this year a fun and enjoyable one.
CRSS hold grub week
By Dawn Hunking
CLINTON - Last week was grub week at
Central Huron Secondary School. This is
where students welcome the new Grade 9
students to the school in their own special
way.
On Monday, slave day was held with
i Richard Lobb, the auctioneer, auctioning off
the Grade 9 s to senior students.
The Grade 9 s or grubs as they are called,
got to do a wide variety of activities
throughout the course of the week, some of
which can be very embarassing. Some of
these activities include; dressing up as your
favourite teacher, pig calling contests,
obstacle courses, jelly bean contests and
more. There was also a day where everyone
dressed up as a cowboy and another day
where they dressed up as their favourite
rocker or wrestler.
Grub week wrapped up on Friday with an
afternoon dance in the school gym.
Grub week is designed for the Grade 9
students to put them at ease and welcome
them to the school.

Municipal
auditing
to be
upgraded
A management initiative to make the
provincial -municipal auditing process more
efficient was announced by Municipal Af-
fairs Minister Bernard Grandmaitre at the
annual conference of the Association of
Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario
(AMCTO) in Toronto, recently.
Mr. Grandmaitre announced the forma-
tion of the Ontario Municipal Audit Council
and the Ontario Municipal Audit Bureau
which will work with munici alities to en-
sure compliance with releva t agreements
and legislation regarding provincial
transfer payments.
Calling the establishment of the Council
and Bureau a step forward for sound
management, Mr. Grandmaitre said that
there will be greatly enhanced efficiency in
having a single team of auditors visit a
municipality once a year instead of having
many provincial teams from rnany in-
dividual ministries visiting a municipality
throughout the year.
This process will allow both levels of
government to use their tkme more efficient-
ly and effectively. - '
"I think you will appreciate what progress
this management initiative represents" the
Minister told the AMCTO. N
"There can be no doubt that good accoun-
tability and sound financial management
can only benefit the people we ultimately
serve — the taxpayers of Ontario." he said.
Ministries presently involved with On-
tario Municipal Audit Council and Bureau
include: Citizenship and Culture, Communi-
ty and Social Service, Environment, Health,
Housing, Municipal Affairs, Northern
Development and Mines, Tourism and
Recreation, Transportation and Com-
munications and Treasury and Economics.
In 1985 approximately $3 -billion was
transferred from the Province to 839
municipalities in Ontario.
was given to the ,Diabetes Association.
Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious
Leadership were given to 75 young men and
women. These awards for $510 each, totalled
$38,250 and are given annually.
This year,, Don Symon. Past Grand
Patron, was re-elected to the Grand Chapter
Executive Committee, and Florence
Symons was elected to the Florence
Nightingale Home Foundation. This Foun-
dation gives approximately $30,000 annually
in donations to hospitals for equipment.
Clinton Public Hospital received such a
donation last year. Ontario's membership in
the Eastern Star totals about 30,000; more
than 2,000 attended this year's convention in
Toronto.
