There is no better way to begin the week. For the Tuesday afternoon church ser- vice, residents had the pleasure of welcom- ing Rev. Alles to the nursing home. It wag Rev. Alles' first visit to the home. Wednesday was filled with ,special ac- tivities. In the morning the Health Care Aides from Conestoga College held their first activity; stepdancing and fiddling. The dancers and musicians came from the Seaforth anc; Blyth areas, This special entertainment was enjoyed by all. In the afternoon residents had the pleasure of having Debbie Fisher of Zurich, a Mary Kay skin -care consultant, volunteer her time in the activity room. She assisted several of the residents in doing facials and make-up applications. The day finished with an enjoyable movie, England's Thames. This movie was' infor- mative, and the scenery was breath -taking! Thursday afternoon several residents went bowling in Zurich. The competition was close, but Neil Regan captured the top score for the gentlemen, and Muriel Cunn- ing had the highest score for the ladies. Also residents would like to send out a warm thank you to both Dorothy Elder and Iva Reid for their volunteer help. Friday afternoon the residents heldtheir monthly resident council meeting, and various things were discussed. Joan Hay was voted in as the new secretary who replaces Dale Gooding. Hearty congratulations to Gertie and Asa Deeves on their 25th wedding anniversary, and Matilda and Clayton Pfile on their 64th wedding anniversary. Van ride to Maaskant's farm lei To top off their studies on Expo, the Grade 7 class of Lowell Mount at Vanastra Public School held an international lunch. Demonstrating the use of chopsticks to his classmates was Lai Racksasouk (centre), and those trying to master the art included Kim Dixon (left) and Judy Elliott. The school's new principal, Mary -Ellen Walsh, plann- ed the dinner and taught the class for this session. (David Emslie photo 4-H project called Milk Makes It • VANASTRA - An outing was enjoyed by a good number of ladies from the Vanastra Christian Church's Crafts and Quilting Club. At the customary time of this meeting, 10 am, on September 23, members were transported in Sandra Maaskant's van. The sunshine, colorful autumn scenery and the visit to Miller's Barn was truly in- triguing. All of the ladies enjoyed the shopp- ing spree, the display of artistic work as well as the lunch served. A nice climax to this day was the visit to Country Spire where again, exquisite works of art were displayed. • For the coming month in the meetings of October 7 and 14, members will be quilting, and on October 21 and 28, Mary Cook from Vanastra will demonstrate her liquid embroidery. -All ladies are invited to the club at 10'am'' each Tuesday at the Vanastra Christian Church. Fresh produce and bake sale will be held October 11 from 10 am - 3 pm at Vanastra Christian Church. Ladies' Group The Ladies' Coffee Break Bible Study and Story Hour have a special Thanksgiving get together on October 9 at 10 am. Pastor M. Samplonius from the Clinton Christian Reformed Church will be speak- ing on How to Worship. After the discussion on this topic, members will have a pot -luck lunch. Drinks and cutlery will be provided. Take your favorite dish or dessert. Directing the club are Chrystal Jewitt and JoAnn Walker. The course the members are doing is called Milk Makes It. At the beginning of the meeting the group m discussed calciuneeds, then watched 'a movie about the disease osteoporosis. After discussing the movie the memherc elected the executive officers, the results were Rhonda Wright as president, Ruth Ann White as vice-president, Susan Jewitt as secretary and Christine Kemp as press reporter. Following the election the group enjoyed a yogurt and strawberry snack called a fruit smoothie, prepared by Mrs. Walker. They were celebrating Aaron's sixth birthday. Etta Cook of Maitland Manor Nursing Home, Goderich (formerly of Belgrave) celebrated her 97th birthday on September 24. The first meeting of the Milk Makes it club was held in the Women's Institute Hall, Belgrave September 16 opening with the 4-H pledges.. Connie Kuc talked about calcium. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. Election. of officers was held as follows: president, Dianne Black; vice president Krista Bridge; secretary, . Sharon Keller; treasurer, Carol Hopper; press reporter, Jennifer Procter and Heather Hopper. They discussed the different milk pro- ducts and goat's milk and the vitamins in milk. Members , then discussed concentrated milk, evaporated milk and sweetened con- densed milk and last we experimented cook- ing with milk. We also made white sauce. . Heather Hopper unite!! church News Arrangements of multi -colored Autumn flowers and a bud vase on each window sill containing a single dahlia beautified the sanctuary of Knox United Church for the Anniversary service on September 28. Members from Calvin -Brick and other neighboring churches joined with the Belgrave congregation to celebrate the occasion. Mrs. George Procter, organist and Mrs. Arnold Spivey, pianist, supplied inspiring prelude numbers as well as accompaniment for the hymns. Rev. John G. Roberts extended a welcome to visiting_ church members and to the guest speaker. Rev. Dr. Douglas Ross, Ex- ecutive secretary of London Conference. Dr. Ross chose the scripture reading with the theme We Need Each Other. The speaker stated "There is an existing Inter Relationship and Inter Dependency." Each body_ organ needs the others. All are needed to function well in work. The large choir sang with organ accompaniment. The singing of the benedic"on by the choir concluded a meaningful service.
