Miss Marsh then spoke about the leaders
in the Bible and Mrs. Allan Webster read
passages about Moses, who became a leader
and Mrs. Oliver Anderson read the Scrip-
ture about ealy followers and the disciples
of Jesus.
Miss Marsh closed with this motto, Chris-
tian leadership is 'the act of serving others
and led m prayer.
Mrs. Tom Cunningham was the accom-
panist for the hymn which followed, Offer-
ing was received by Mrs. Jack Armstrong
and Mrs. Oliver Anderson.
The vice-president, Dana Bean then con-
ducted the business meeting. Mrs. Peter
Verbeck led a memorial service in honour of
one of the group's late members, Mrs. B.
Marsh, who is sadly missed.
The Thankoffering service is to be Oc-
tober 22 and the village ladies, Blyth, Nile
and Dungannon are to be invited. Mrs. Bean
closed the meeting with prayer.
4-H Club
The Auburn 4-H Club met on Saturday,
September 27 at the home of Glenyce Mc-
Clinchey. It was the first for Milk Makes It
with approximately 17 members. The club's
leader is Rosemary Kibble with assistant
leader, Glenyce McClinchey.
Election of officers was held with the
following results: President, Tonya
Boomstoppel; Vice-president, Denise
Gross; Secretary, Anita Gross; Press
Reporter, Julia Glenn.
The roll call, which was answered by each
member, was to name a food that is a good
source of calcium.
Information was read and discussed on
how to avoid calcium deficiency. Members
participated by making nachos and a
raspberry drink.
The meeting was closed by the Club's
president, Tonya Boomstoppel, with the 4-11
motto, Learn to do by Doing.

On September 27 Barb, Mel, Theresa,
Melanie, Christopher and Beth Knox were
guests at the wedding of Beth's grandson,
Richard Swan, to Elaine Timmins at the
Centennial United Church in London. The
reception followed at The Ivanboe.
Congratulations to Cheryl Lyon and
Calvin Bakelaar who were married on
September - 27 in the United Church in
Londesboro.
AI Visiting with Olive Penfound and Elgin on
III,be weekend was her sister, Mabel McLeod
from Mitchell.
Visiting over the past two weeks with Mr.
and Mrs. Jake McDougall were his sister
Jessie Cataliona from Boise, Idaho, and
their neice Jean Giordano from Toronto.
Dirk and Lloy Garlichs of Kitchener spent
the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
Allen Shaddick, and on September 28 Jeff
and Karin Shaddick, Stephen and Crystal of
London also visited them.
On September 28 visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Jim McEwing were Mr. and Mrs.
William Pepper of Brucefield, Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Lloyd of Harriston, Mr. and Mrs.
John Brown of Grand Valley and Mr. and
Mrs. Jack McEwing of Blyth.
The WI consumer affairs meeting will be
held on October 8 at 8 p.m. The speaker will
be the Hydro area manager Bill Dobson
from Goderich. He will be speaking on safe-
ty and saving energy. Everyone is welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill enjoyed
September 27 and September 28 on a Leisure
Bus' Tour by Margaret Burkhart to the St.
Catharines Grape Festival parade.
Norman and Helen Alexander spent
September 14 to September 16 in Sarnia,
where Norman attended the Biennial Con-
ference of Ontario Conservation

Former Auburn man
dies at the age of 86
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson spent last
weekend with their son, William at
Newmarket.
Paul Popp of Lonesboro had his appendix
removed in Clinton Hospital last week.
James Towe of London, formerly of
Auburn, died in his 86th year. Our sympathy
to the family.
Mary Young of Goderich, formerly df
Auburn, is a patient in Clinton Public
Hospital.
Mrs. George Beattie, former Auburn
teacher and daughter-in-law, Mrs. George
Beattie of Unionville called on former
pupils in Auburn area recently. She was the
former Marie Welsch.
Happy Birthday to Ellen Johnston who
celebrated her 88th birthday on Saturday.
Mrs. Tom Haggitt, Lillian Leatherland and
Mrs. Robert Peck arrived home from a two
day trip to Manitoulin Island.
Knox United Church Service
The minister Gary T. Shuttleworth con-
ducted the morning service at Knox United
-Church. Lori Millian was organist.
The Junior Choir sang "Be Wise" under
the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster and
Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist.
The minister chose far his sermon,
Holding on during the Struggle.
Offering was received by Teadde Bakker
and Ken Ramsey.
Knox U.0 W.
The Knox United Church Women held
their general meeting on September 25 at
the church. Betty Marsh opened the meeting
with a skit. Other members of the cast were
Mrs. John Durnin, Dana Bean and Mrs.
Jack Armstrong. The audience was involv-
ed also and learned how to be a leader. •

everyone involved, planning a good pro -
'm raand gaining confidence in your work.

Community is theme of
UCW worship service...

BELGRAVE - The general meeting of the
UCW was held September 25 in the church
school room. Mrs. Ross Higgins vice-presi-
dent welcomed everyone and opened the
meeting with a hymn.
Community was the theme of the worship
service led by Olive Bolt, assisted by Sara
Anderson and Janice Coultes. Community
Spirit is fostered in the home and from there
spreads to help meet the needs of friends
everywhere. Mrs. Bolt further emphasized
the value of friendship, just as seeds are
sown and must be nurtured ,so friendships
are made and must be thoroughly and
tenderly cultivated.
Mrs. Ross Higgins conducted the
.business. Invitations to attend Brussels
UCW Thankoffering meeting on September
28 with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Perry of Cape
Croker as guest speaker and the Blyth UCW
Thankoffering meeting October 5 with Kim
Crawford of Waterloo as guest speaker who
will share her experience in a crusade to
India.
The Regional Rally is to be held in
Whitechurch United Church on October 7 at
7:30 p.m. The theme is Gifts Women Bring ,
was announced. Also Confessing Our Faith
meeting will be held October 2 at Brussels
United Church and the London Conference.
A one day event with Pearce Williams day
itt Fingal on October 6 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
It was decided to send a bale to Goodwill
London with articles of clothing to be left at
Mrs. Ross Anderson's by October 31.
Mrs. Jim Hunter introduced Pamela
Shaw Who played a solo, then a flute solo ac-
companied by mer mother Leslie Gnaw.
Mrs. Melville Mathers introduced guest
vpeaker Janet Clark from Wingham who is a
/member of the Board of Directors for the
Ronald McDonald House in London. In
Canada, Toronto's opened in 1981. London's
in 1985. Canadanow has 10 homes.
On November 29, the 100th house will be
opened in Long Island, New York. The need
is increasing and the people are responding.
London's Ronald McDonald House can ac-
commodate 13 families at a time and
volunteers work many hours.
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler thanked Mrs.
Clark and presented her with a gift.
Mrs. Ross Higgins closed the meeting
with prayer and a social half hour was
enjoyed.
