Grace celebrated her 90th birthday in the Huronview auditorium with friends and family. (Anne Narejko photo) *WWII veteran dies Kelso (Ken) Thompson Adams Kelso (Ken) Thompson Adams, formerly of Clinton, died August 19 at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. He was 66 years old. Mr. Adams served for 18 years in the RCAF, both in war and peace time. He saw active service overseas for three and one hall years with the 427 Bomber Squadron. After his release from the air force he was employed by Bristol Aerospace Ltd. in Win- nipeg until his early retirement in 1980. He is survived by his wife, 011ie; sons, Gerald and wife Diane, Michael and girlfriend Betty Jean and stepsons and their wives, Gary and Pat, Don and Bev, Dale and Louise Kozun. Also surviving are grandchildren Neil, Cameron, Michelle and Tim. Mr. Adams was predeceased by his father Ernest in 1971, mother Margaret in 1972 and sister Donalda in 1980. A memorial service was held August 26 at Leatherdale Gardiner St. James Chapel, with the Rev. John Howson officiating. Ash interment is his birthplace of Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. UCW enjoy laughter CLINTON - The afternoon unit of Wesley - Willis UCW met September 18 at the home of Bess Fingland. Kathleen Whitmore chaired the meeting with her usual interesting approach. Nineteen ladies were ready to take on the autumn work after no meetings since June. At that meeting they enjoyed a happy time in the church followed by a raspberry sup- per supplied by Poss Livermore. The business part of the meeting was quickly despatched. Secretary's report given by Edna Stewart in the absence of Marg Cole. Treasurer's report was given by Helen Rathwell. Anne Broadfoot led in prayer and scripture reading. Privilege of Growing Old was read by Eleanor Fisher, Helen Rathwell read The Ladies Aid, an article on that subject and remembered by some of those present. Helen Rathwell gave a word picture of Clinton as it once was in 1880 - an eye-opener for many. Some of the industries of long ago are two large salt blocks, Stepleton the larger, the organ factory, a separator factory, two planning and sash mills, p flax mill, a large flour mill, a steam carriage factory, a Woollen factory, a tannery and many more. Besides all this, there were several hotels, chief among them were the Rattenburg and Commercial. The meeting closed in which laughter played an important part, laughter that divine disinfectant. - A turkey dinner served by the hostess closed a most interesting meeting. Grace Duggan celebrates birthday "Being just 90 is like bein'g70" dl HURONVIEW - On September 28, Grace Duggan celebrated her 90th birthday in the auditorium. The actual date of her birthday is September 30. Born at Durham in Grey County, she at- tended Hutton Hill Public School, Durham Continuation School, Hanover Model School and later Toronto Normal School. In 1920 she married Walter L. Due to ill health, Mr. Duggan passed away in 1972 at Huronview and Mrs. Duggan con- tinues to reside alone in the home. "I have lived for 13 more years with the help of many good friends who took me to church; for shopping; and appointments. One must become a part of a new colnmuni- Zeta Omega members to put on a fashion show . CLINTON - The second meeting of Zeta Omega Sorority for 1986 was held at the home of Debbie Roy. The meeting question this week was "What household chore gets done last in your home?" The hush Party will be held at the Vanastra Curling Club. After a very lengthy discussion on Ways and Means, it was decided that members will do a Fashion Show in the spring. In other business Janice Rose showed her purchases made for the children at the Clin- ton Public Hospital. After the meeting the rest of the evening was spent making homemade chocolates of all kinds. Each member had hands-on ex- perience and all agreed this undertaking is certainly much cheaper and just as. delicious as chocolates purchased in'the stores. The evening ended with members tasting their chocolates. Next meeting will be the Rush Party on October 14. UCW prepares for season CLINTON - The worship theme for the On- tario Street United Church UCW meeting was Where Is God? The group in charge was Beatrice Welsh, Valier Mair, Elma Jewitt and Reta Wright. Thirty-nine home and 80 hospital calls were reported. "Time passes quickly and I have pleasant memories of the 30 years spent in the teaching profession in Ontario and Michigan. Advancing years indicated a change had to be made and my decision was to come to Huronview, now my only home," noted Mrs. Duggan. Greetings were received from the Gover- nor General Jeanne Sauve, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Premier David Peterson and Murray Cardiff Member of Parliament. Guests attending were from Davidson Michigan, Grand Bend, Lucan, Teeswater, Clinton and Bayfield.
