Clinton News-Record, 1986-10-01, Page 8Page 6—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1986 Storm causes $1,500 damage By Kathy Bromley BLYTH - On September 23, residents here experienced a thunderstorm that was too close for comfort, as lightening struck in the district. Bowes Electronic had been struck - lightening had hit the aerial and/or dish out- side the business, and radios and televisions plugged in at the time were deprived of any power. The lightening had went one step further, as apparently approximatly three surroun- ding neighbors had no use of their sets. Damages at Bowes TV & Radio was estimated at over $1,500. Cleaning Up The Garden I don't know about everyone, but I ani sure that most will agree with me when I say that I am so tired of hearing that four letter word - R A I N. Myself, I can't com- plain too much, unlike the farmers after all of the hard work and money invested in this year's crop. Sunday, for a change, was actually sunny and take advantage of it, we did. Normally, at our residents, it is set aside as a day to just sit back and enjoy, put everything off, until the day that I detest getting up for - Monday. But, being as the weather was on our side, permitting us to enjoy the outdoors for a change, we decided it was a good time to take advantage of it. Since the nice days seem few and far bet- ween, we thought it to be an ideal time to clean out the garden. After having pulled the majority of the weeds (which did better than anything else), we began digging the potatoes. Unfortunately, the potatoes didn't grow "worth a hill of beans", as most were very small. It looks as though I'll have to order ours for the winter this year. What really has me baffled, though, is I don't eve - ,recall having planted the mashed potatoes MI left in the dirt.
