James Henderson
James Clifford Henderson, of Brucefield,
died in University Hospital, London, on
September 16. He was 66 years old.
Mr. Henderson was born on June 6, 1920 in
Radisson, Saskatchewan to the late George
Clarence Henderson and the former Elsie
May Lobb who now resides in Huronview.
On February 10, 1948 Mr. Henderson mar-
ried the former E. Jean Webster in
Hamilton. Following their marriage, the
couple moved to Stanley Township where
they farmed unitl 1982. At that time they
sold the farm and moved to Brucefield.
Mr. Henderson was- a member of the
Board of Stewards of Brucefield United
Church and was also a member of the IOOF
Brucefield No. 210.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jack
(Gayle) Pepper of RR3 Kippen, and two
sons, William and Laurie, both at home.
Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. William
(Wonetta) Holland of RR4 Clinton, and one

Shirley Jean Procunier, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Neal Procunier of RR1 Eden,
Ontario and Steven Carmen Gross, the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Gross of RR1
Auburn, were married on June 21, 1986 at
Richmond United ' Church with Pastor N.
Hare officiating. Pastor M. Brubacher of
the St. Thomas Baptist church assisted in
the cermony. Matron of Honor was Ruth
Copland, sister of the bride, and the
bridesmaids were Gwen Van Bruwaene, a
sister, and Elaine Buir, a friend. Faith
Wilker, a niece of the bride, was the
flowergirl and David Van Bruwaene, a
nephew of the bride, was the ringbearer.
The best man was the groom's brother,
David Gross, and the ushers were David
Whyte and John Van Bruwaene. _After a
honeymoon in Banff and Vancouver, the
couple took up residence in Blyth.

A funeral service and committal service
were held on September 19 at the Ball and
Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton, with Rev.
Lorne Keays of Brucefield United Church
officiating.
Interment in Baird's Cemetery, Stanley,
Township.
Sarah Alberta "Birdie" Whitely

Sarah Alberta "Birdie" Whitely died at
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital
on September 15, 1986 at the age of 96. She
was a member of North Street United
Church.
Born in Dungannon on July 12, 1890, she
was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward
Durnin and Barbara Dreaney.
She married Charles Andrew Whitely
who predeceased her.
She is survived by daughters, Helen and
Jean, both of Toronto and two sons, Benson
and his wife, Dorothy of Goderich
Township and Graham and his wife,
Eleanor of Colborne Township.
Seven grandchildren, Carol, Heather;
Sharon, Lisa, Jennifer, Brian and Bill sur-
vive as well as two great grandchildren,
Andrew and Nicholas.
She was predeceased by two sons, Bert
and Ross and four sisters and three
brothers.
The funeral was held from the Mc-
Callum and Palle Funeral Home in
Goderich on September 18, 1986 at 2 p.m.,
conducted by Rev. Robert 0. Ball of North
Street United Church, Goderich.
Pallbearers were Brian Whitely, Bill
Whitely, Ron Young, Chester Sturdy,
Bruce Holmes and Eugene Bender.
Burial in Maitland Cemetery.
Members of Vanastra attend sessions
VANASTRA - Four members of the
Vanastra Christian Church hope to attend
the Counsellor Training sessions in
Goderich for .the film, Cry From The
Mountain.
In preparation for the upcoming activities
in the Church this coming winter eight
ladies attended the Ontario Church School
Convention in London on September 13.
Ten workshops were offered that day: Ef-
fective Evangelism; Music; Friendship
aeries (beginners and advanced); Building
the Body of Christ; Witnessing Where You
Are; Story Telling; Discipline, and Super
Intendents.
On September 23, the Vanastra Church
held registration for all children's clubs and
teen. club. A film was also shown.
Teen club leaders for this season are John
and Sandra Maaskant and Marg Kroes.
Meetings are held on Monday's at 8 p.m.

in Grade 2-3.

Tuesday's at 7:30 p.m.
For Calbinette's Leaders are Rose Hum-
mel (head counsellor), Hilda Visser, Janice

Dyksta (spare). They meet'Wednesday's at
7 - 8:30 p.m. The group is for girls nine, 10, 11

MR. JAMES CLIFFORD HENDER-
SON of Brucefield died on Tuesday,
September 16, 1986.
Funeral service was held on Friday,
September 19, 1986.

p.m. - 8:30 p.m It is for ages nine, 10, 11 and
12 yea's old.
The Ladies' Coffee Break Bible Study and
Story Hour had a joined meeting on Sept. 18
with the Quilt and Craft group. Orval Ter -
mon showed a selection of his music boxes.
The Ladie's Coffee Break will have a
regular meeting on September 25 at 10 a.m.
The Quilt and Craft group will meet
September 30 at 10 a.m.
The Young Couples had their first Bible
study on September 14.
On September 27, they will go mini -golfing
at Willie's and afterwards they are invited
to Jack and Mary Kroes
On October 5 after the morning service,
the congregation hopes to have a pot -luck
dinner. Everyone is welcome to attend.

its 25th year

Rhonda Johnston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Johnston of Blyth, and David
Bartliff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bartliff
of Clinton, were married on August 16 at On-
tario Street United Church, Clinton, with
Rev. David Woodall officiating.
Maid of honor was Linda Kennedy of
Londesboro and bridesmaids were Colleen
Cox of Clinton, Sharee Bartliff of Clinton
and Nancy Deitz of Kippen. The flowergirl
was Lindsay Bartliff of Clinton with Philip
Bartliff of Goderich as the ringbearer. Best
man was Dave Hanley of Clinton with
ushers Paul Bartliff of Goderich, Don
Bartliff of Clinton and Jim Johnston of
Blyth. A reception was held at the Clinton
Community Centre. The couple now reside

The Clinton and District Christian School
has started its 25th year on a very positive
note.
At a recent membership meeting it was
decided to go ahead with a 21/2 room addi-
tion, to do extensive renovations to the ex-
isting building and to replace the roof. The
total cost of the project will be approximate-
ly $130,000 of which $85,000 has been raised
by means of a drive in the supporting
communities.
This year the school has 188 students
enrolled from the Blyth, Clinton, Exeter and
Goderich areas. Two new teachers will be
added to the staff.
Pearl Samplonius from Clinton will be
teaching music and directing the choirs.
Joyce Dekker from Sarnia will be teaching
Kindergarten three days a week and work-
ing with Trix Bradley in the remedial Pro-
gram on the other two days.
This will be the first time that the school
has hada full time Retriedial Program; it is
being made possible by the new addition.
The annual meeting of the School Society,
was held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the
school. Retiring board members were
thanked for their many hours of work and
new board members were elected.
The budget of $407,200 for the 86-87 school
year was approved by the society. The
board has designated' the weekend of June
19, 20, 21 1987 for the official 25th Anniver-
sary celebrations.

Karen Elizabeth Holmes, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gerry Holmes, Clinton, and Marc
Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rae Cook of
Barrie, were married on July 26 at Ontario
