Lawries shutout Dynamos, 8-0

B1,YTH - The Clinton men's fastball
season ended Monday night, after a close
series that looked as though it could go
either way. The game was held In
Holmesville, since the Clinton ball diamond
was too wet to play on. With this being the
last game of the season, the best three out of
five, everyone was on edge, as both the
Blyth Lawries and Londesboro Dynamos
had two games each to their credit.
Lawries was trailing by a 2-0 lead in the
series, but made a strong come -back, taking
the next two games straight.

LONDESBORO - The UCW meeting 41was
held here on September 15 in the church.
President Joan Whyte welcomed all and the
UCW purpose was repeated.
Kitty McGregor introduced Brenda Doner
from the Blyth Festival, andshe spoke
about the volunteers working 5,100 hours an-
nually as ushers and helpers.
With the gourmet dinner, festival singers
and the book sale, all help is appreciated.
She told them how they find plays then
develop them, and she answered questions.
She is leaving for Africa for two years. Kitty
thanked her and presented her with a book,
Holiday Ideas.

Monday night's game was a shut out,
defeating Londesboro Dynamos by a score
of 8-0. Rick Scrimgeour pitched the full
game. He finished his year with not only the
satisfaction of a shut out, but also the joy of
striking out the final batter of the season.
Lawries were also the seasonal cham-
pions of the year in Clinton. The Clinton
Men's Fastball will be holding their banquet
this Saturday night at the Clinton Legion.
Euchre Starts

night at 8 p.m. in the Blyth Memorial Hall.

Falls accompanied by their daughter, Mrs.
Tim Thomas and children Bradley and
Stephanie, visited over the weekend at the
home Of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longman.

visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Longman as well.

Kitty McGregor with 20 present. Marion
gave a reading and a hymn was sung with
Gail Lear at the piano. A Psalm was read in
unison and it was followed by a prayer. Kit-
ty then read the scripture and another hymn
was sung.
Business was conducted by Joan Whyte,
and the minutes of the last meeting were
read by secretary Betty Hulley. ..
For correspondence, there were thank
yous from Marg and Jake McDougall, the
Nesbitt family and from the Blyth firemen
for the use of tables for the pancake
breakfast at the Threshermen's Reunion.
An invitation was received to go to Walton
on October 9 for a quilt display and tea in the
afternoon and evening at 1:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The UCW Fall Rally will be held on
September 29 at 6:30 p.m. Londesboro will
be hi charge of the Winthrop registration on
October 5. The Blyth UCW will be holding
their Harvest Bonanza starting on October
29. On November 1' a silent auction will be
held.
The treasurer's report, given by Betty
Millar, showed a balance of $1,140.66. Joan
reported on the Presbyterial executive
meeting. Audrey Thompson reported there
are two quilts on hand to quilt. The UCW an-
nual meeting will be held on January 26 in
Mitchell, and the UCW anniversary of 25
years will be held on January 11.
The UCW plan to have a service when the
minister is on holidays. June Fothergill in-
vited the UCW to a WI meeting on October 8
when the Hydro area manager, Bill Dobson
from Goderich, will be speaking on safety
and saving energy.
Alma One Day School For Women was
cancelled -and in its place a special Steward-
ship Day will be held at RR1 Fingal at the
Pearce Williams Christian Centre on Oc-
tober 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is to
wear their favourite apron.
The meeting was 'closed and lunch was
served by Florence Snell, Audrey Thomp-
son, Penny Overboe and Dora Shobbrook.
United Church
Greeting members to the United Church
baptismal service on September 21 were
Rev. Snihur and Nancy Penfound, with the
users being Theresa Knox, Vickie Riley,
Joanne and Janet Wilts.
Lighting the candles were Shannon Duizer
and Christine Potter.
A hymn sing was held prior to the service
and it was led by Rev. Snihur with Barb
Bosman at the piano.
All were welcomed and the following an-
nouncements were given. The Bible Study
will be held at the manse on September 26 at
1 p.m. Y.P. will be held at the Whytes' on
September 26 at 7 p.m. A walk-a-thon will be
held on October 5.
The sacrament of infant baptism was held
for Krystal Ann and Brianne Pauline, the
twin daughters of Debra and Terry Albrecht
of Hullett Township, and for Matthew
Steven Terence, son of Kerri and Steve
Howard of Red Deer, Alberta.
Clara Riley presented a rose to the
parents, and Bob Trick gave the certificates
from the church.
The children's congregation went to the
front of the church to see the christening.
Children's time was held with junior teacher
Aileen Salverda.
The anthem was sung by the men's choir
with Marsha Szusz as the organist and choir
director.

Clara Riley has returned home after spen-
ding the past two weeks in Thunder Bay
visiting her daughter Marie and Bruce Kelly
and Kathy.
Residents are glad to report that Mrs.
Arie Duizer returned home on September 16
after spending seven weeks as a patient in
the Clinton Public Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Good spend
September 14 with Mr. and Mrs. Randy
Logan and Kathy in London.
Dorothy Powell, Laura Lyon and Edythe
Beacom enjoyed a three day Superannuated
Teachers bus tour to Manitoulin Island, the
Sudbury nickel mule and Science North,

Explorer meeting held

LONDESBORO - Edith Taylor conducted
the first meeting of the Londesboro Ex-
plorers as elections have not yet been held.
Linda Horbanuik is helping Mrs. Taylor this
year.
Thirteen members joined the group in the
church basement, five of them were new
members. They are Paula Allen, Erin
Jamieson, Mandy Hadenko, Lindsay Ander-
son and Lindsay Salverda. Mrs. Taylor had
a Watermelon treat for the members.
Paula Allen won the chair prize and the
group played Rumor.
Christy Scott and Angela Horbanuik had
birthdays this month.
Everyone said the Explorer purpose and
song and Kelly Bosman read the Explorer
Emblem.
Cheri Taylor read the Explorer Picture
and Angela Horbanuik gave the Explorer
motto.
The girls worked on Fall Brooms for the
church. The amount of $1.86 was in the
collection.
We closed the Expedition with this is Our
Father's World.

HULLETT TWP. - Hullett Central Public
School had their first race on September 17.
They started out late because of the bad
weather we've been having.
Mr. Talbot, who teaches Grade seven, is
the leader of the cross country team. He
started the races, ends them and figures out
the results.
The three midget boy winners were: first,
Jamie Riley; second, Paul Beureman and
third, Shawn Hakkers.
The girls who won in the midget division
were: Kerrie Szusz, first; second, Pauline
Huizinga and third,•Lindsey Anderson.
The junior boy winner was Chris Ken-
