President Marg Anderson welcomed all, and the roll call was answered by 18 members and two visitors by naming a food containing fiber. The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary -treasurer Alice Buchanan. By way of correspondence thank yous were received from Marian Doucette, the Lady Dianne Nursery School, the Nesbitt family and the Buchanan family. On October 4 and October 5 crafts will be shown at the Milton Museum. On October, 6 the WI fall rally will be held in Walton. with *delegate Helen Lawson, and the area con- vention will be held on October 16 ancLOc- tober 17 with delegate Marjorie Anderson. The 1986 WI scholarship was won by Lisa Duizer, a 4-H leader. The committee moved to give $200 to Ron Nesbitt and family. The treasurer's report showed, a balance of $704.65 and savings of $1159,59. The Huronview Bazaar will be held on Oc- tober 8. Volunteering to help were Beryl Reid, Elma Jewitt, Lois Elliott and Margaret Taylor. Beth Knox gave a reading and the presi- dent thanked Beth Knox for planning a bus trip to see Annie and for making a quilt block for the Earland Lee Museum. The Lions supper convenor for September is Doreen Carter, for October it is Helen Lawson and for November is it Marjorie Anderson. Margaret Taylor introduced the guest speaker Barbara Guse, the dietician for Clinton and Goderich hospitals. She spoke on bone calcium, sodium active mineral, milk and milk products. She then answered questions and was thanked by Margaret Taylor and presented with a gift. Helen Lawson reported on a historical research meeting on September 23 in St. Helens, and a banquet on October 28 in Brucefield. She also gave a reading. y, The meeting was closed and lunch was served by Hattie Wood and Dora Shobbrook. United Church Greeting members to the United Church on September 14 was Trudy Pollard. Ushers for the day were Kathy Kennedy, Shannon Duizer, Vicki Riley and Theresa Knox. The organist was Barbara Bosman and leading Auburn Horticultural Society holds annual Recent visitors with Ellen Johnston and Laura Phillips were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Weir of London; Mr. and Mrs. Brant Rahn of Grand Bend and Flo Fenton of Kitchener (former Flo Pfeffer of Auburn). Congratulations to Vicki Rodger whose marriage to Robert Siddon took place on Saturday, September 13. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rodger of Auburn. Visitors on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. E. Rodger were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rodger of Scarborough, Mr. and Mrs. Les Rodger of Belville, Pearl" Rollison, Reg Cowper, both of Toronto and Mrs. Randy Maize and daughter, Jenni. All attended the Rodger-Siddon Wedding on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross and family and Marjorie McDougall attended the 50th anniversay at Atwood on Sunday for Mr. • and Mrs. William Ropp (formerly Gladys Gross of Auburn). Horticultural Society The Auburn Horticultural Society held their meeting on Monday, September 8 at the Community Hall with 24 present. The president ,Don Haines welcomed everyone. Marjorie McDougall was pianist. There were many lovely bouquets of flowers on display. The minutes of the last meeting was read by the secretary Mrs. Jack Vincent. The treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Ross Robinson. Ernest Durnin entertained with several mouth organ selections accompanied on piano by Marjorie McDougall. Discussions on flower beds, baskets and fountain storage etc. took place. Roll call was answered with something strange or different in your garden. Marion Haggitt gave a reading, Language of Flowers. Winners of door prizes were Stewart Ball, Ruth Jardin and Lillian Stewart. David Cartwright showed slides of St. Paul's Minnesota, French River and local interest. These 'were very nice slides , of flowers, scenery and rivers. He was thanked by Don Haines. Lunch was served by Mrs. Tom Lawlor, Mrs. Jim Cartwright and Mrs. Bob Arthur and a social time was had by all. Auburn W.M.S. The Presbyterian W.M.S. meeting was held at the home of Viola Raithby on Tues- day, September 9. The president Martha Daer presided. Carol Daer had the devotional and the meditation was make the most of it. Frances Clark had the study on the Account of the last Supper. • History of missionary heard at meeting • • By Mrs. L. Stonehouse BELGRAVE - The WMS meeting was held September 8 at the home of Mrs. Jack McBurney. Mrs. Garner Nicholson presided and open- ed with a poem. Ivy Cloakey read the scrip- ture and Mrs. Mac Scott read the meditation on Usefulness. Mrs. McBurney led in prayer. Roll call was answered with a verse on Harvest. The secretary's report was given by Mrs. McBurney and the treasurer's report by Mrs. Cloakey. A poem was read by Mrs.Hazel Dalrymple. The topic was read by Margaret Dunbar who gave a history of a missionary., Catherine Campbell, who went to India in the early 1900s and Rev. and Mrs. Hugh McMillan who went to Formosa in 1924. Rev. Most of the class said they like to develop their own ideas and do things differently from. others, with only two students disagreeing. One of the students pointed out, "If you don't, then you're just copying everybody else." The students couldn't agree on the last two questions with 27 saying they should help someone with a problem if they ask for help, and 24 saying that it is not all right to break the school's rules sometimes. Seventeen sick and shut-in calls were recorded and collection received. Mrs. Nicholson closed the meeting with prayer and lunch as served by the hostess. People In The News Lila Higgins, Margaret Higgins and Jean Pattison visited the former's sister Annie Nethery of the Pinecrest Nursing Home, Lucknow. Melissa and Marci Bieman of Wingliam spent the weekend with their grandmother Agnes Bieman. Douglas Bieman of Kincardine spent the weekend with his mother, Agnes Bieman. Several Edgar relatives attended the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Don Craig of RR 2, Blyth on Saturday evening at the Blyth Community Centre. + Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia and Dianne Edgar of Toronto were over- night guests on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Hanna of RR 4 Atwood at the Alma Community Centre. Residents wish to congratulate Angela Nethery who was crowned 1986-87 Huron in worship was Rev. Bonnie Lamble of Walton and Bluevale churches, as Rev. Snihur was taking Bluevale anniversary services. She welcomed all and gave the following announcements. On September 21 at 10:50 a.m. there will be a hymn sing. On that Sun- day there will also be infant baptism. The teen youth group will meet on September 18 at 8 p.m. at the school to play volleyball. Bi- ble study will begin on September 16 at 1' p.m. The flowers in the church were from Carol Cartwright and Ben Munnings who had their wedding on September 13. Children's time was held with the junior teacher Aileen Salverda. The sermon was given by Rev. Bonnie Lamble. Flowers were also in memory of Keith Hesselwood from his family. Personals Congratulations to Carol Cartwright and Ben Munnings who were married in our church on September 13. Patricia and Sarah Millson of Woodstock spent the weeekend with their grandmother Dora Shobbrook. Mrs. Glen Carter spent two days with her daughter Colleen in Exeter to celebrate Col- leen's birthday on September 9. For the celebration they visited the London Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson, Katie and Jennifer of Burns celebrated Bob's birthday. Congratulations to Lisa Duizer on winning the 1986 WI scholarship. Mrs. Alf Bell (Vera Lyon) from Prince Rupert, British Columbia is visiting relatives in the vicinity. meeting at community hall County Dairy Princess on September 5 in Brussels. UCW The Afternoon Unit of the Belgrave UCW held their September meeting in the church school room. Sara Anderson opened the meeting. Janisa Coultes reported on the birthday par- ty and of the United Church Women's 25th anniversary in 1987. Mrs. Lawrence Taylor gave the treasurer's report. Audrey Fenton opened the worship ser- vice with prayer and a song. The scripture was read. A inspirational reading was given by Mrs. Fenton. Prayer and a hymn closed the worship. A sympathy card was signed for the fami- ly of the late Margaret Curtis.' A birthday card was signed for Hazel Pro- cter who is now a resident of the Callindar Nursing Home,' Brussels. 'Alice Scott gave an interesting Bible study `which created 'a lot ''6l?'erithUsiasr}i"Among the ladies. It was 'entitled "The flood Samaritan". The study on the native people was presented by Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, Unveiling the Myths. Mrs. Coultes spoke about the Dene Indians. 4-H Club Would you like to learn more about milk and milk products? The Auburn 4-H Club is looking for girls between the ages of 12-21 who would like to take the fall 4-H project "Milk Makes It." Unit II of Auburn U.C.W. met in the church Wednesday, September 10. Slides of the Orkney Island, Scotland and England were shown by Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs. Greg Park. In charge of devotion on the creations was Marjorie McDougall and Mrs. Bud Chamney. Mrs. Gary Shuttleworth gave prayer. Anita Gross played a piano solo. Leader Betty Marsh convened for the business and reports. Members will par- ticipate in a Painless Bazaar which Mrs. Peter Verbeek will prepare. Catering and visiting was arranged. Members answered the roll call with a highlight of summer. The meeting closed with "Nine Requisites for Contented 'Living". Knox United Church Mr. Gary Shuttleworth conducted the ser- vice at Knox United Church and Lori Millian was organist. The Senior Choir sang I will sing of the Mercies of the Lord with Lori Millian as pianist. There was time for children and they went to their Sunday school rooms with .
