' The art of farming has come a long way
since the days of the threshing machine.
Automation has caused many of the .
changes, making the farmers' . job a little
,less strenuous and less time consuming.
However, as the new equipment and
machinery arrives, the methods of yester-
ay are lost.
Trying to keep tradition alive is what the
Thresherman's Reunion is all about,
therefore it should come as no surprise to
learn that log sawing competitions, using
the "old fashioned" method, bag tying and
belt setting will all be a part of the fun on
September 6 and 7.
When a person first thinks of such com-
petitions; the first thing that comes, to mind
is they are for the males to take part in, but
to the log sawing competition, there will
be classes for children, women and men as
well as a mixed class. All of these will be
held on September 6 as well as the over
60 -year-old class.
In the bag tying competition everyone is
welcome to cothpete'and the winner will be
the person who ties the set number of bags
the fastest.
Belt setting is a unique competition,
allowing the competitors to try their hand at
both, or either, the tractor belt setting or the
steam engine belt setting.
Those who wish to tackle the tractors' belt
should be on the grounds at the Blyth Arena
on September 6 and those wishing to set the
steam engines' belt should be prepared to do
so on September 7.
