But this is not true for the perators of the saw mill at the Blyth hresherman's Reunion. Their mill pro- vides its own fuel. Approximately 20 years ago, five members of the Pioneer Thresher and Hob- by Association Reunion privately purchased the Canadian built saw mill, which is run by a steam engine, from Fred Mote and then donated it to the club. The mill, which sits on the arena grounds permanently,, is not all that sophisticated, however, it does do the job very adequately. According to Bob Houston, who is in charge of the mill's operation at this year's reunion, the mill is simply made up of a cir- cular saw blade on a mandril. There is a log carriage or track which holds the logs as they are being cut. The mill operation can be carried out by three people. One person is called the engineer. who looks after the steam engine, another is called the head sawyer who looks after cutting the lumber and the third per- son is called the tail sawyer who takes care of the cut lumber. The mill is not only easy to run, but it is very economical. "The one nice thing about the mill is the slab wood, or scrap wood, goes back into the steam engine...it supplies its own fuel," said Mr. Houston. The mill will be run throughout the reu- •on, providing demonstrations for viewers. Wheat farmers paid $15,546 Clinton News -Record September 21, 1961 Wheat farmers in Huron County will soon be receiving cheques totalling $15,546.80. There are 887 producers of wheat in the county who will share in this payment. Growing 310,936 bushels of wheat in the crop year 1960-61, Huron County growers contributed nine cents for each bushel to the Ontario Wheat Producers Marketing Board. This money was used to market wheat, which otherwise *ould have served as a surplus with the tendency to lower over-all .prices. In that crop year, the Board used only four cents a bushel, and the balance of five cents is being returned to the individual producers.
