Blood donor clinic
iriiiiates computers
By Helen Owen
BAYFIELD - The Bayfield Lioness were
busy on August 11, when they were on hand
to assist with the blood donor clinic under
the auspices of the Red Cross.
A new component this year was the in-
troduction of computers for the registration
of patients, and it was interesting to learn
that Bayfield had been chosen as the place
to initiate this very efficient equipment.
Unlike the last occasion, attendance was
poor but nevertheless there were some 48
donors. This may have been due to other
clinics having been held in the near vicinity
in recent weeks. The need for donations of
blood is vital and they continually require
replenishment.
However, the Bayfield Lioness would like
to thank all those who came along to support
the clinic and so helped to maintain this
resource.
Bayfield Garden Club
Instead of the usual monthly meeting,
some 20 members of the Bayfield Garden
Club met at the home of Harold and Lilian
Beakhust on August 11. After a picnic lunch
the group studied the types of entries re-
quired for the agricultural fair, and under
the leadership of Leda McAlister, set about
working on suitable exhibits.
It is hoped that this preliminary run will
ensure a good number of entries on August
22.
There are still some 'never miss'
members who have not yet renewed their
subscriptions for 1986, and new members
are always welcomed. There is still time to
join in order to qualify for premium bulbs as
long as membership is picked up before
August 31. If you have overlooked this item

August. They will be exhibiting at the fall

Agricultural Society as the many and
demanding plans culminate in two special
events. The first will be the Gala Evening on
August 20, the ballot for the Fair Lady and
her Maidens, and then August 22 and 23 the
judging of the entries and the big parade.
This will be Hayfield's 130th Fair and it is
really a community event with so many will-
ing helpers involved in planning and im-
plementation of the program, and so many
participants in the various categories.
Gardeners, artists, photographers, as well
as those practising all sorts of crafts will be
working to complete and perfect their en-
tries, not to mention fur and feather
breeders who will also be grooming their
stock for the big day.
It was a busy weekend for the Optimist
Club who sponsored the ball tournament at
the Fair grounds on August 16 and 17.
Twelve teams took part with Barney's
team from London emerging as the winners
and the Dwarfs from Paul Bunyan Camp as
runners-up.

After a typical Slow Pokes start, Knox
went on to win the game.
