Sympathy is extended to family
Our sincere sympathies go out to Mr. and
Mrs.,•Orva1 McPhee on the death of their
son, Ron. Marjorie McDougall visited on
Sunday with her brother, Stewart Toll and
Mrs. Toll of London.
Glad to report that Mrs. Marion Sproule
has returned home from University
Hospital, London. Larry, Debbie, Patrick
and Kathryn Chamney of Ottawa visited his
parents, Bud and Laura Mae Chamney and
other members of his family last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Allison Gardhouse of
Midland spent the weekend with their aunt
Beth Lansing and Sunday visitors with Beth
Lansing were Mr. and Mrs. Loran Peter of
Bervie..._.
Larry, Debbie, Patrick and Kathryn
Chamney leave October 1 for Paris, France,
where Larry will be working for the French
Government for three years.
KNOX UNITED SERVICE
Gary Shuttleworth conducted the Sunday

morning service at Knox United Church.
Organist was Mrs. Gordon Gross.
The children sang Trust In The Lord
under the direction of Tammy Shuttleworth
with Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist. They
went to Sunday School rooms in charge of
Linda Durnin and Kevin Webster.
The minister chose for his sermon, The
Choice is Yours. The flowers in the sanc-
tuary were from the funeral of Ron McPhee.
Offering was received by Larry Plaetzer
and Allan Webster.
For several years now the pupils of Knox
Sunday School have been raising money for
a foster childin the poorest country in the
Western Hemisphere, Haiti, where tuber-
culosis is a child killer. A pop bottle drive
will be held on August 18. All children and
interested parents will meet on the church
lawn. Anyone wishing to donate bottles or
wanting to make alternate arrangements
can phone 529-7682.
The annual Walkerburn Club picnic picnic was
held Tuesday evening, August 5 at Mfrs. Ted
Hunking's home. A swim in the pool was
thoroughly enjoyed by the children.
Mrs. Terry Rutledge and Mrs. R. Ar-
chambault were in charge of the sports
which were enjoyed by everyone.
Winners were: junior balloon race, Cor-
tney Rutledge and Christine Lapp; senior
balloon race, Shana Lee Ten Hag and Paul
Cushing.
For the spoon and yarn relay the winning
team was led by Brenda Rutledge and the
balloon relay winning team was led by
Bonita Ten Hag and Paul Cushing. Harry
Webster was the lucky winner of the jelly
bean contest and" Larry Cushing was the
runner up. The item guessing contests were
won by Vera Penfound, Bonita Ten Hag,
Shana Lee Ten Hag and Christina Gross.
A picnic dinner was enjoyed and a social
get together ended the day.
Ellen celebrates her 93rd .birthday

BELGRAVE - Congratulations to Ellen
Armstrong of the Pinecrest Nursing Home,
Lucknow. Mrs. Armstrong celebrated her
93rd birthday on July 31.
Mary Dunlop and friend of Elora called on
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson one evening
last week.
Helen Christie of Brantford and Mrs.
Charles Johnston of Blyth visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse on August 8.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Black, Jamie and
Joan of Brandon, Manitoba, spent a couple
of weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Black.
The Johnston reunion was held in the
Belgrave WI Hall, on August 10 with Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Porter in charge.
Twenty-two attended from Teeswater,
Exeter, Windsor, Goderich, Dungannon,
Bayfield, Londesborough and surrounding
area.
After the usual reminiscing, looking at old
photos and the family tree, all sat down to a
bountiful lunch.
The next reunion will be held the second
Sunday in August, 1987 in the Belgrave WI
Hall with Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Johnston in
charge.
Members of Knox United and Knox
Presbyterian Churches in Belgrave joined
with the members of Calvin -Brick United
Church on August 10 for the final joint
church service for the summer holidays.
Mrs. Norman Coultes, organist, and Mrs.
George McGee, pianist, provided special
music for the service. The junior choir sang.
The guest speaker was George Cowan,
Lay minister from Chatham and Morris
Township. His thoughts to the children were
that their life should be a beacon or light to
others by being kind, helpful and thoughtful.
Mr. Cowan's message Caring for the
Flock, was based on Scripture from Ezekiel.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Nethery recently
toured Columbia Icefields, Banff and Lake
Louise before attending the Square Dance
Convention at Calgary.
While there they visited their niece Donna
Gillespie, after which they spent a few days
at Expo and Victoria.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dow and Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Higgins have recently returned
home from a motor trip to Vancouver where
they attended Expo. They visited with
Joanne Coultes in Victoria and. Michael
McNall at the Museum in Victoria. -
On returning home, while in Calgary, they
attended the Square Dance Convention and
also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Parseh
(Colleen Farrier) Athparia.
Joseph Shaddick dies at age 93
LONDESBORO - Sympathy is extended to Evelyn, and Edythe Beacom.
Elsie Shaddick and sons John and Bill and Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lyon spent four
families on the death of Joseph Richard days holidaying 'Iasi week "in Sault Ste.
Shaddick on August 9. Marie and on the Canyon Cruise.
Aged 78, he was a patient at Maitland
Manor, Goderich. The service was held on
August 11 at the Tasker Funeral Home with
Rev. Stan McDonald officiating. Interment
in Blyth Union Cemetery.
He will be remembered by his brother
Allen, his sister Maimie Carter and five
grandchildren.
Friends will be interested to learn Ronnie
Nesbitt has been transferred from Universi-
ty Hospital in London to Parkwood
Rehabitation, 801 Commissioner Road East,
London.
Thirty-five members of the Dolmage
family held their reunion on August 10 at the
home of Mary Longman.
They celebrated the birthday of Ralph
Warrens of Seaforth, the 16th anniversary of
Bruce and Sheila Thorvalson of Winnipeg,
_and the 31st anniversary of Bob and Bernice
Norris of Staffa.
Spending a few days with Mary Longman
are Bruce and Sheila Thorvalson and their
family Chris, Darrell, Darwin and Shannon.
There will be an open shower for Carol
Cartwright, a September bride elect, on
August 24 at 2 p.m. in the Londesboro hall.
Mrs. Dave Anderson spent August 10 with
Mr. and Mrs: Fred Hutter in St. Augusta.
They celebrated Steven's second birthday
and the 35th anniversary of Fred's parents.
The UCW meeting will be held in the
school on August 18 at 8 p.m. There will be
quilting, so quilters should come early. On
the program is guest Millie Lobb, who will
be demonstrating silk flowers.
The Lyon family reunion was held on
August 10 at Exeter Park. P?tending from 26 after spending a month touring with
Londesboro were Laura Lyon, Murray and friends in the Orient.

The Burns UCW held their meeting on
August 6 at the home of Trudy Pollard.
There were 14 members present., '
Beth Knox was the leader and opened the
meeting with a reading. Following this Ida
Leiper played the organ while a hymn was
sung.
All library books must be returned by
August 16 for book exchange.
Beecroft Reunion
The descendants of John and Adelaine
Beecroft gathered at the Gorrie Park on
August 10 for their family re -union.
Forty-three enjoyed a picnic dinner.
The assembly took the opportunity to wish
Mrs. Hector (Beatrice Beecroft) Hamilton
of Gorrie best wishes on her upcoming birth-
day, the 45th wedding anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs. Melville Beecroft and also wish
them well as they move from Otterville to
their new home in Barrie.
Members attended from Barrie, London,
Kurtzville, Bowmanville, Brockville, Blyth,
Brantford, Wasaga Beach, Wingham,
Belgrave and Gorrie.

the minutes of the last meeting were read.
Thank you cards were received from the
Leiper family and Ida Leiper.
Amelia Rice reported eight boxes had
been delivered to the Scott Mission. A mo-
tion was made to send a gift to Ronnie
Nesbitt who is in a London hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vodden and Dora Shob-
brook visited on August 1 with the family of
Margaret McAlpine at the Kipps Funeral
Home in Paris. She died suddenly on her
84th birthday.
Don and Phyllis Newby, and Dennis and
Janet Newby of Kitchener visited on August
3 with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Orval
Newby.
Barbara Paterson, Katie and Jennifer of
London spent a few days with her parents
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns.
Vera Gibbings, Thelma Ellerby of Clin-
ton, Doris Andrews of London and Dora
Shobbrook spent the holiday weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Rae Rosebush in Bobcagen,
and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Shobbrook at Melody
Bay.
