Lilly, Alberta is an ambitious production. While it uses a minimal amount of scenery, that which is used is done so with great skill and creativity. The audience readily ap- preciated the original use of scenery and of- fered rounds of applause when, for instance, the train rolled into town, illustrated by the use of several painted umbrellas, effective- ly used to portray the big wheels of the -lumbering engines. • And too, there are wonderful sound effects in Lilly, all supplied by the behind -the - scenes cast members. The script for Lilly is rich and powerful. However, in presenting this play with fast faced vignettes, it is sometimes easy to momentarily lose track of the characters and the scenes. • Still, Lilly, Alberta is an exceptional play, the best to be staged at the Blyth Festival this season.
