Armstrong home built in 1870s
A drive down the side roads in Stanley
Township will reveal some lovely homes,
some which have stood up through all types
of weather over the years, and others which
cannot tell quite as many tales.
A stone house, located on the Goshen Line,
is one home which has been handed down
from generation to generation.
The home, presently occupied by Greg
Armstrong, was built around the 1870s. The
original owner was Rainey Armstrong who
passed it on to his son, George. George's
son, Lorne, took the home over after World

Floyd's son, Greg, is now living in the house.
How Stanley was named
The Stanley Township was named after a
most honorable figure in English history,

fourteenth Earl of Derby.
Stanley is the family name of the Earls of
Derby of West Derby, Lancashire, England.
They were active in public life for more than
500 years, and in their ranks were political
leaders, scholars, soldiers and sportsmen.
The Stanleys possessed one of Britain's
oldest titles, therefore Edward Stanley had
the social position that marked him for a
political career.
Born at Knowsley Park in Lancashire on
March 29, 1799, Mr. Stanley made his first
move into politics in 1822 when he was
