Homesteads Robinsons own farm for 140 years In 1845 Thomas Robinson, his wife Dinah Moore and mother Catherine Robinson came to Huron County and purchased lot 9 con. 10 from the Canada Co. They had emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland in 1824 and had settled first in Argentuiel, Quebec. In 1873 Edward Robinson, son of Thomas, married Annie Orr who had come from Ireland at age six and had lived near Wingham. They took up residence in the stone house built in 1867 and raised a family of seven children. In the early years, Edward walked 45 miles to London to purchase a churn; he carried it home on his back and asked for shelter along the way at nightfall. He hauled bags of grain to Goderich and carried them up several flights of stairs to be elevated, and was also one of the farmers who, armed with pitch fork and gun, drove to Bayfield to fight the Finians when an in- vasion was threatened from Michigan by Lake ,Huron. The Finians did not appear, however. Edward Robinson and his family were much church -oriented: singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, acting as Sunday school superintendent, serving on session and caretaking Goshen Church for many years. Son Will became a minister and two daughters deaconesses. Richard married Ethel Emerson ' from Manitoba and farmed in Saskatchewan where he had purchased a farm in 1905. In , the 1920s they lured on the heritage farm in • Stanley Twp. from where Richard shipped carloads of bulk apples to towns in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Richard returned from Saskatchewan in 1937, during the depression, accompanied by his wife, Ethel, their daughter, Norene and two sons William and John. At that time at age 57, he made a new beginning on the century farm, and in 1944 he moved and raised the barn. The couple lived to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in the stone house where Richard had been born. Norene married Elmer Hayter and lives on the Babylon where they and their three sons Allan, Gerald and Robert farm. Their daughters are Donna McBeath and Anne Lavis. Bill married Maisie Lee and has been a part of CKSL Radio Station for 17 years. Their three children are Lynn, Richard and Joanne. John and his wife, Margaret Col- quhoun, who now own the Robinson Homestead, farmed on the,Goshen and later moved to ,Clinton where John owns a com- mercial printing business and Margaret teaches at Central Huron • Secondary School. Their four children are Tom, Paul, Lisa and Lorelei. Paul and his wife Debbie lived on the heritage farm before moving to Florida. The farm has been owned and occupied by direct male - Robinson - descendants for 140 years. The Robinson Homestead, made of stone and built in 1876, was once occupied by these peo- ple. Part of the house was built in 1865, with the remainder done in 1882. Few changes since 1865 The McClymont home on the Parr Line has had very few changes made to it since it was built back in 1865, says present owner Ivan McClymont. The home was built by Mr. McClymont great great grandfather, William and han ed down to his great grandfather whose name was also William, then to his grand- father James and his father Fred. It was Fred McClymont who made the most changes, adding two porches in 1938., In the early 1900s, the verandah on the southside was taken off. Another changemade to the home was the addition of the woodsned to the west end of the home. This was to replace the one which used to be located on the north side. Congratulations Stariley Township.
