They're watered twice a day and the cages are bedded with straw every day. The clean- ing of the shed rows occurs every two weeks. Still Fashionable Mr. Chuter says the market for minks has been fairly good as the fashion world con- tinues to favor mink coats for their luxury and durability. Even men are now getting into mink fashions which has created a whole new market for mink furs. Recently, he says the mink ranchers have been receiving opposition from animal rights groups who want the raising of the Iimais for their fur stopped. However, Mr. uter sees his business as being no dif- ent from a cattle or swine farmer raising an agricultural product. Nevertheless, he says it's an interesting business which he hopes will continue in the family for many years to come. Many mink farmers are leaving the business as their sons aren't taking over. But, he says his son Jeff is interested in mink farming. "We like it. It gives us independence. We still have to work seven days a week, but with the both of us it works out quite well," says Mr. Chuter.
