Jack Burghardt to lead service
Television broadcaster, politician and
well known speaker Jack Burghardt will be
the featured guest at the Stanley Township
Sesquicentennial Church service.
Mr. Burghardt has long been involved in
United Church activities and' is known
throughout the area for his church work,
community vyork, political interests and
career as a news broadcaster. .
Mr. Burghardt has been a familiar face on
television over the years with CHCH in
Hamilton and with CFPL in London.
His political activities have seen involve-
ment in the federal parliament for four
years when he was the Liberal member for
London West under the Trudeau regime. He
has also served as the Deputy Mayor for the
City of London.
For the Stanley Township Church Service,
Mr. Burghardt will give the sermon entitled
"A Continuing Witness."
The non-demoninational service will
feature representatives from the Christian
Reformed Church, the Mennonites, Roman
Catholics, Uniteds, Anglicans, Baptists and
Presbyterians.
Offerings collected from the service will
be equally divided and donated to the Sur-
vival Through Friendship House and the.
Christian Blind Mission.
A community choir will sing three special
anthems' at the service - "Old One Hun-
dredth" with accompaniment by the Central
Huron Secondary School trumpeters, "Now
Let Every Tongue Adore Thee" and,
"Praise My Soul The King of Heaven."
Paul Steckle will lead the congregational
singing before the service. The Varna
singers will perform, led under the direction
of Mrs. Marjorie (Allan) Hayter.
Julia Armstrong and Sandi MacDonald
will present a vocal duet and Ron Fleming
will sing "Faith Of Our Fathers." The clos-
ing hymn will focus on the. non-
denominational aspect of the service with
the song "We Are One Iq The Spirit."
Anyone wishing to 'bring bouquets . of
flowers to the service may do so in the,
memory of their forefathers,
Fourteen people in the community have
helped organize this church service, in-
cluding Rev. Wilena Brown, ' former
minister at Varna United Church, secretary
John Van Sligtenhorst, Dean Aldwinckle,
Maude Armstrong, Susan Faber, Ephraim
Gingerich, Pearl Ann Martin, Anna, Keys,.
Floyd McAsh, Verona Snyder, Paul Steckle,
Ruby Triebner, Afra Van Wonderers and
Bonnie Keller.
The service will be held on Sunday,
August 3.

tario which was held in Stanley Township on
July 17. Although it was extremely warm,

Wearing her Stanley Township 1-5-0 hat was
appropriate as Lori Consltt, Huron County's
Queen of the Furrow, gave her speech on
farmers' hats. Miss Consitt performed in
front of the large crowd gathered under the
Wintario tent before the program went on
