Tiger Dunlop WI has
contributed to Colborne
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
In 1948 Colborne residents Mesdames
Jean Clark, Ila Bean, Ann Montgomery,
Violet Bean, Ruth Wilson, Annie Lamb,
Elva McCabe, Annie Henderson, Irene
Clark and Christine Ross met together and
started the Colborne Women's Institute
which in 1953 was changed to Tiger Dunlop
Women's Institute with Motto "For Home
and Country". We celebrated our 35th An-
niversary April '1983,..with ,one hundred In-
stitute members and guests who witnessed
the unveiling of the picture of our Founder,
Mrs. Jean Clark.
With a membership of 49 members we
became involved in Community work. Af-
filiated with Colborne Township Federa-
tion of Agriculture members catered to
banquets, including Grade 8 Graduation,
to picnics for the blind, helped at Huron -
view Birthday parties and at -Plowing mat-
ches; sponsored and provided leaders for
4/H Clubs and Senior courses in cooking,
sewing, leather tooling, copper tooling,
quilting, millinery, crewel embroidery,
needlepoint, balertwine mats — one
member Mrs. Ila Bean has made 400 mats
andvis still making them. Members can-
vassed for Cancer Society; redecorated
and furnished Township Hall and kitchen;
New Canadians helped in International
year programs; a member, Mrs. Evelyn
Hardy started the Hobby Show for Col-
borne residents at Colborne Township Hall
which later became Christmas Country
Fair at Saltford Valley Hall; contributed
and took part in Centennial project at the
Allin Home; provided books for Colborne
Central School Library and give a yearly
citizenship Award to student outstanding
in Community Work in memory of Mrs.
Annie Lamb, Charter member and Past
President. The Institute is still very active
for Home and Country.
