Sallows best described his work in his own words. "I always strive to take people unawares, in their natural moods, at their common callings, or in familiar sur- roundings — all of which I find imparts natural and lifelike qualititesto all my studies." It was these "lifelike qualities" that were to 'make him a legend in the world of photography across Huron'County, Canada and beyond. Around 1900 the Immigration Department 'commissioned him to travel the prairies with his camera. He lived among the Doukhobors of British Columbia to gain their con- fidence. He travelled throughout the Canadian North-west living with the native people, and his Arctic pictures are now priceless. Farm magazines accepted all the work he weuld send. The Canadian.
