When the Colborne Township Choir per -
®forms at the Colborne Sesquicentenial
celebrations on the weekend of July 10-20,.
it will be the culmination of many long
months of hard work.
The project was begun in late March of
this year. About 45 people, residents and
former residents of Colborne Township,
were recruited to harmonize for the Ses-
quicentenial celebrations
Clare -Ann Jewel was selected to
organize the choir and had little trouble
finding the necessary number, of in-
dividuals to fill- the risers. The singers
range in age from a university student to
several senior citizens.
Practices were begun in April with
Shirley Dustow, who has taught music in
area schools for some 25 years, directing
and Irene Millian, trying to divide her time
between the Jolly Millers and the choir, ac-
companying. Along with the Monday even-
ing sessions, a number of brush -up con-
certs were held to give the group perfor-
mance experience. They were invited to
, several centres in the area including
Auburn, Nile and Bewniller.
The choir, comprised of soprano, alto,
tenor and bass sections,, boasts a wide
variety of music in its repertoire, both
secular and religious —the latter being the
reason that they were in demand to per-
form at area churches. The secular music
that the group has •learned includes such
favorites as "Morning Has Broken" and
"This Land."
The choir will be singing on the Saturday
of the Sesquicentenial weekend at the Beef
Barbeque. A number of other performers
will be featured then as well, including the
GDCI Jazz Choir.
The Colborne Choir can be seen again on
the Sunday of the Sesquicentenial weekend
when they take part in the outdoor Church
Service at 2:00 pm.
