this parade
Colborne parade will feature
more than 100 entries
Everyone loves a parade!
From the elders of a community down to
the wide-eyed children, parades appeal to
people of all ages,
And parades have such appeal because
they reflect the spirit of a community and
band people together in friendly co-
operation to provide some home style
entertaii'iment.
The Colborne Township Sesquicenten-
nial parade Saturday, July 19 promises to
be a fun -filled and entertaining affair that
will reflect the people and culture of the
township. It promises to be a,parade that
will offer a fitting tribute to the 150th birth-
day_ of Colborne Township. .
Parade chairman Bob Jewell is pleased •
the way the parade has shaped up and
estimates entries will exceed 100.
Entrants will be asked to begin forming
a line at McGaw near Brindley Transport
between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Saturday morn-
ing..The parade is scheduled. to begin at
11:30 a.in. and will take about an hour and
a half to pass a given point.
The parade will proceed from McGaw to
Colborne Central School, it will make its
way around the school grounds and pro-
ceed on County Road 1. The county road
between Carlow and Benmiller will be
closed to through traffic.
The parade itself will feature all manner
of floats, horse-drawn and gas powered
vehicles, clowns, families, groups and
bands. In short, there's something for
everyone.
Entries have been received in commer-
cial, service club, children's, classic and
antique cars, families, comical, Colborne
concessions and horse categories.
Members representing area ridings inthe
Provincial Legislature and House of Com-
mons will also be part of the parade. A 1986
Camaro sport coupe, which will be raffled
off Saturday evening will also be in the
parade.
Parade committee member Len Jenkins
said that the Shriners and their miniaturiz-
ed versions of cars and motorcycles will be
much in evidence in the parade and also
five bands wip provide musical
entertainment.
The bands participating include the Mit-
chell concert Band, Ilncardine Scottish
Pipe Band, Coder-ieh f aketown...Band,..
Seaforth Girls Marching Band and the
Dashwood-Seaforth Band.
Since the township was planningfor its
own Sesquicentennial over the past year, it
has entered its own float in parades around
the area.
While many people have been diligently
working on their entry for the past few
weeks, Jenkins estimates that many more
entries will materialize this week, swelling
the number of people and entries involved.
"It wouldn't surprise me if we got up to 150
entires," he said.
Regardless, Jewell, Jenkins and the
other committee members have been
working to organize a parade that the
township will never, forget.
One thing's for sure; the parade will be
entertaining. And no doubt it will be a fit-
ting tribute to the celebration of 150' years
of Colborne Township.
