' All Loans Paid, Very Few Taxes In Ar-
rears'Here - Town of Clinton is in good shape
financially, according to finance committee
chairman John A. Sutter. He reported to
council on Monday night that all loans have
been paid at the bank.
Also, tax payments are good, with tax ar-
rears on only two properties prior to 1959.
IDWitnesses Must Install Drain Decides
Council - Harold McNally, appearing before
Clinton Town Council on Monday night was
advised that the drain in front of the new
Jehovah Witness Hall on Pugh's Terrace
was an award drain, and the town was not
responsible for making it a covered drain.
Radio Station Licence For Goderich
Denied - According to a- report from Ottawa
last week, the Board of Broadcast Gover-
nors last Thursday recommended for
denial, two applications for a new 1,000. watt
radio station at Goderich.
Comment from the board was that licens-
ing of a Goderich station woud not - at this
time "assure the residents of Goderich of
satisfatory local service and would en-
danger the standard of service in Huron
County generally.
Librarians Find Job In Scarboro - Mr. and
Mrs. R.G. Eckmeir, who recently resigned
from the employ of the Huron County
Library Board, have taken positions with

"Six-
ty" And Lands In Pond UnderneatHis
Overturned Cat` - When a fanning bee was
started on the respective methods of cooling
oneself, a local milkman placed the stamp
of approval on a fast ride in a motor car,
saying his "old bus" could make 60.
His statement was challenged and a
wager made, the betters and followers retir-
ing to the race track at midnight for a test.
The "old bus" got away under the wire to
a good start, tore up the back stretch, made
the turn at the quarter -mile post a little
wide, jumped the embankment and turned
over four wheels up in a frog por 1, the
driver underneath.
He crawled out from under, thoroughly
cooled off, if a little smelly, and telephoned
for a wrecker.
Colts Take Another Easy One From
Sailors - For the third time this year the
Clinton Colts took the Goderich Sailors igto,
camp on the local ball diamond last Friday
evening. The locals drubbed them to the
tune of 12 to 0. "Gordie" Stock was on the
mound for the Colts and pitched fine ball all
the way, allowing the Sailors but five hits,
he issued just two walks, and fanned four
batters in the six innings played.

Front Street Comes First - As the result of
a spirited session on Monday evening the
town council decided to at once begin the
work of laying down macadam on Front
Street, operations to begin at Fair's mill to
which point macadam has already been
laid.
During the discussion, which grew a little
snappy at times, it was brought out that an
the completion this week of the new road-
way to the Royal Bank corner, $7,000 in
round figures will have been spent of the
$10,000 voted by the people. There thus re-
mains only $3,000 with the business part of
the town and Ontario Street as yet untouch-
ed and it is Conceded that this amount is in-
adequate for both.
A Demonstration - A free demonstration
of breakfast cereals will be given on the
auspices of the Women's Institute in the
council chamber at three o'clock next Mon-
day afternoon. The demonstrator will be
'Miss Marjorie Goldie, graduate of the Mac-
donald Institute, Guelph. Members of sur-
rounding Institutes and ladies of town are
cordially invited.
