President Melvin Knox welcomed all, and a minute of silence was held. All enjoyed a pot -luck dinner, after which last year's minutes and a treasurer's report was given by Thelma Ellerby. Correspondence included a letter from Barbara (Shobbrook) Joslin from Van- couver and a phone call from Edna Stemler to her sister Bessie McBride. A sympathy card was signed for Maimie Crawford on the loss of her brother, Joe Moore, on July 2. It was moved to have the reunion next year at the same place andtime on July 12. The nominating report was given by Beth Knox. The honorary presidential couple were Melvin and Barbara Knox, and the president couple were Cliff and Kay Saundercock. Vice-president was Ross Rad- ford, with sports being .handled by Brad Shobbrook and Theresa Knox, and the nominating committee being Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook. The 'oldest person present was Laura Saundercock at 91 -years -old, and the youngest was Lindsey „Carol McComb at three months. The longest married couple, being mar- ried for 48 years, was Bessie and Perc McBride, and the people who came the far- thest for the reunion were Shelly and Drew Bell and their girls from Port Colborne. In the sporting events, for the girls under five the winner was Lyndsey Andrews and for the boys it was Curtis Blake. Coming in first for . the girls aged six to nine was Melissa Bell and second was Marsha Miller. First place for boys six to nine was Christopher Knox and second was ,T^^^+hnn lst Shobbrook reunion Miller. In the girls aged 10 to 13 category, the winner was Melanie Knox, while second place went to Vera Bell. In the ladies' events, Melanie Knox was first and Sonia Grantham was second. Verna Gibbings was the winner for the grandmothers, while Doris Andrews placed second. For the men, Brad Shobbrook came first and John McComb finished second. In the ladies' kick slipper event, Theresa Knox came first, while Drew Bell won for the men. Carol Shobbrook won in the clothes pin event, and Melissa Bell won for guessing the number of jelly beans. There, were some relay races run and a candy scramble. At the reunion there were members pre- sent from Port Colborne, Galt, London, Blyth, Goderich, Londesboro and Clinton. Beth and Melvin Knox with Cliff and Ruth Shobbrook attended the 50th family reunion of the Eedy family at Granton on July 5. Personals Ron Nesbit was admitted to University Hospital in London on July 6 following a swimming accident. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jackson and Sandra of Ridgetown spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen. They at- tended the Allen reunion on July 6 at River- view Park in Exeter. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Allen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Don Scruton and family of Clinton. On July 1, the holiday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick were Lloy and Dirk Garlichs, Jeff and Karin Shaddick, Danny, Stephen, and Crystal of Kitchener. Richard and Jean Shaddick, Sandra, David, Lynn and Nancy of Ottawa spend the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. Barbara and Colin Paterson,, Katie and Heather of London visited on July 6 with her parents Bob and Vi Burns to celebrate Vi?s birthday. On the June 29 weekend Colleen Carter of Exeter, and Larry, Collen and Tenya Carter of Sarnia visited their parents . Glen and Doreen Carter and attended their grand- father, Jack Armstrong's 90th birthday celebration in Londesbroo Hall on July 1. Glen, Doreen and Colleen Carter, along with Jack Armstrong and Ken visited on Ju - Ay 4 with the Moore family at the Ronn Dodge Funbral Home in Forest. Glen, Doreen and Colleen Carter spent Ju- ly 4 to July. 7 in Toronto. They attended the Blue Jays' game on July 4, and on July 6 they visited with Doreen's aunt, Margaret Taman in' Brantford. Visting on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Or- val Newby was their daughter Dorothy Menary of New Market. They all attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Cecil and Mary Bowman at Granton. Burns UCW The Burns UCW met on July 2 at the church. Hazel Reid was the leader, and opened the meeting with a reading. Hazel read the scripture and the topic `Man's greatest power' was presented by Hazel Reid, Gloria McEwing, Joan Hog- garth, Josephine MacGregor, Beth Knox and Jean Scott.- After Hazel closed with a prayer, Amelia Rice conducted the business. Roll call was answered with a bible verse, and the minutes of the ast meeting were read. A thank you card was received from Jean Leiper. Amelia Rice reportred 15 more boxes to be delivered to Toronto. The date of October 22 was set for the bazaar. 1"ethery-Leishman enjoy reunion events BELGRAVE - The 41st annual Nethery - Leishman reunion was held June 22 at the community hall, Londesboro, with 64 sign- ing the register. Mr. and Mrs. George Ives and family of Blyth were in charge of the sports which were enjoyed, by all. Guests were present from Decker, Michigan, Niagara Falls, Burlington, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Goderich, Teeswater; Clinton, Auburn, Londesboro and surrounding district. Following the supper hour, president Alvin Gallagher of Kitchener, took charge of the meeting. He announced the deaths dur- ing the past year. Mrs. Heber Nethery, Everett Leishman, Arlie Gray and Howard Van Camp. A few minutes silence followed in remembrance. The president told of his experiences as lie recently spent two weeks in Ireland where he visited many of the Nethery ancestral homes, churches and cemeteries. As Emma Bearss of Niagara Falls was named Woman of The Year, a dinner was held in her honor which was largely attend- ed. The speaker was Sylvia Gold and she' Happy 15th Birthday s t v gam,/ Asimmimm said Mrs. Bearss had been a pioneer in creating policies for women. Special prizes were awarded by •Mr. Gallagher to: oldest person present, Beatrice Barker of Goderich; the youngest person present, Kurt Virkutis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Virkutis of London; the person coming the longest distance, Marion Gray of Decker, Michigan; most recently married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scanlon of Ottawa; lady having a yellow comb in her purse, Isabel Scalon, the man driving the oldest car to the reunion, Bill Nethery; and person guessing number of candies in a jar, Larry Fisher. Lucky place mat winners were: Brian Potter, Larry Fisher.and Wm. Alex Nethery. A treat of watermelon was given to all present by Alex Nethery of Burlington. The 1987 Nethery - Leishman reunion will be held June 28, 1987 at Londesboro. President for next year is Alvin Gallagher of , Kitchener and secretary -treasurer is Mary Isabel Nethery, Belgrave. The tournament,began July 3, with Burkholders defeatig The Blue Crew by 'a score of 20-4. The following game saw The Londesboro Bootleggers win against The Blyth Metal Benders with a 10 run lead after the fifth inning, winning. 16-6. The final game that night saw Howsons defeat The Blazers 16-4. On July 4, play resumed at 7 p.m. with The Londesboro. Warriors winning over Allboro with a slim margin of 8-6. The Brodhagen Bandits defeated The Blyth Inn in the next game, winning 8-1. The final game of the evening had The Goderich Township Outlaws playing against The Munroe team from Mitchell. The Outlaws advanced to the "A" championship with their 11-4 win. During the morning of July 6, slowpitch resumed at 8 a.m., The Londesboro Blue Crew came out the winners against the Blyth Metal"Benders•by a score of 9-6. The second.a.$6irn el," ofAlit>. f1>'ning hail Burkholders win their second game of the tournament. They eliminated The Londesboro Bootleggers 11-8. At 10:32 a.m. Allboro was put out of the tournament with a 12-6 win for the Blazers. At noon hour, Howsons played their final game of the tournament, loosing to the War- riors with a 13-9 score. In the next game, Blyth Inn defeated Munroe by a score of 7-2. The Broadhagen Bandits faced The Clinton Outlaws and came out ahead, with their 9-4 win. Then The Blazers were put out by The Blue Crew, defeating them 9-5 _ _ The game at 5:30 p.m. saw Burkholders advance to the finals eliminating the War- riors. The score was 10-7 for Burkholders. The next game was very competitive with The Blyth Inn facing The Blue Crew for the "B" championship. The Blue Crew took the championship, defeating. the Inn with a close 5-3 score. The Blyth Inn were the runners-up. " The final game for the "A" championship was held on schedule. Burkholders won the "A" championship against The Broadhagen Bandits by a score of 8-2. The Bandits took home the "A" runners-up money. A hat of their choice, donated by local businesses, was given to players who had an automatic,home-run.
