Grade 8 students earn many awards

LONDESBORO = Hullett Central Public
School held their Grade 8 graduation at the
Londesboro Hall on June 23.
The banquet was opened with grace, and a
toast. to the Queen by Theresa Knox. Follow-
ing the dinner Jeff Nesbitt showed his ap-
preciation to the ladies who prepared the
dinner.
Next there. was an introduction the head
table by Marilyn Mayberry, then of the
guests and the graduates.
John Jewitt expressed greetings from the
board, and Mr. Talbot then proposed a toast
to the graduates. Anita Gross replied, then
Kathy Kennedy introduced the teachers,
and Ron Jewitt replied.
For the'rest of the program they moved to
the school where the Grade 8 class
presented two poems and two musical
numbers.
The _ gradu tion theme was `friends'.
Kathy Kenney recited a 'poem written by
her great grandfather entitled `Dreams',
and this was followed by two songs by the
graduates.
During the music and poetry, Mrs. Rad-
ford gave a slide presentation of the
graduates.
Following the program the awards
ceremony began. Theresa Knox won the
history and geography award, and the
French award went to Christine Potter.
These awards were presented by Lorne
Hunking and Mr. E. Griffin from the Happy speaker, Paul Carroll. Leona Cunningham
Gang seniors. thanked the guest speaker. Elizabeth Bran -
The mathematics award was given to don introduced Anita Gross who delivered
Cheri Hoggart by Keith Allen on behalf of
T.B. Allen Ltd.
The English awa,g�dd� was given on behalf of
the Summerhill Ladies by Amy Gerrits to •
Leona Cunningham.
The penmanship award, which was
donated and presented by Mr. and Mrs.
MacLennan, went to Elizabeth Brandon.
The outstanding athlete awards which
were donated in memory of Ted Pickett
went to Wai Lee for the boys, who received
his from Mr. and .Mrs. John Jewitt, and
Kathy Kennedy for the girls. Kathy received
her award from Rose Cooke. •
The industrial arts award went to Elvis
Vincent. The award was donated by the
Londesboro Women'a Institute,. and was
presented by Mrs. Keith Snell. ,'
Darlene Buffinga was given • the home
economics award by Beth Knox.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee donated the effort
and co-operation award, which was won by
Mary Ann Pickett and presented by Mr. and
Mrs. Lee.
Brent Radford won the top graduate
award for the boys which was donated by
the Londesboro Lions Club. Bill Shaddick
presented this award. Anita Gross was
presented this award for the girls by
Greame Craig.
Brent Radfor introduced the guest
the valedictorian address.
The evening ended with the singing of 0'
Canada, with Mrs. Bosman on the piano.
Happy Gang Seniors
The Happy Gang Seniors meeting was
held on June 25 in the hall. Following the
welcoming by president Lorne Hunking, and
the singing of the national anthem, a minute
of silence was observed in memory of Harry
Caldwell, a member who passed away on
May 30.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
by secretary Estella Adams, and thank yous
were received from Mary McDougall and
Verna. Glazier. _ ..
Lorne reported that anyone wanting to
play cards during the last week of July or
August will find the hall available. The next
meeting will be held on September 24, with a
pot -luck dinner.
The treasurer's report was given by Hazel
Reid, and she reported a balance of $5.88. It
was moved to pay the bills.
Roll call was answered with 23 present.
Lorne expressed thanks for"help in his two
years as president. Audrey Thompson
thanked Lorne.
The nominating committee will 'have of-
ficers at the next meeting.

downtown, and are currently supporting the need and demand for additional
affordable seniors accommodation in Clinton.

Minister earns a degree

Congratulations to Gary T. Shuttleworth,
minister of Knox United' Church, who
received his Bachelor of Arts Degree
recently from the University g£ Windsor.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Gardhouse acid baby,
Gillian of Toronto, visited on Saturday with
their aunt Beth Lansing.
Congratulations to these Auburn area
students who won awards at Hullett Central
School..They are Leona Cunningham, Grade
8 English, Elvis Vincent, Grade 8 Industrial
Arts, Anita Gross, Grade 8 Proficiency and
Laha Lawrence, Grade 7 Proficiency.
Everett Youngblutt of St. Thomas called
on Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor on Sunday:
Mrs. Harold Baechler returned home on
Thursday from St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Knox United Church Service
The minister Gary T. Shuttleworth con-
ducted the morning service at Knox United
Church on Sunday.
Nancy Park sang a solo, Be Not Afraid,
accompanied on piano by Mrs. Gordon
Gross on the organ.

received by Lawrence Plagtzer and Brian
Ramsey.

Auburn U.C.W.
Auburn U.C.W. met on Wednesday even-
ing, June 251n the church basement. Mrs.
Peter Verbeek opened the meeting With an
Indian poem. Marjorie McDougall was
pianist.
Love and Life was the meditation given by
Mrs. Verbeek, which touched on the
teachings of Nehru and work of Gandhi.
Offering was received by Mrs. R. Koop-
man and Mrs. T. Jardin.
Mrs. Ross Dobie introduced the guest
speaker, Rev. Daniel Abraham, President
of the Evangelical Churches of India. He
told about his work in Northern India and
showed slides of temples of° various
religions, the transportation system and
schools.
During the business period, it was decided
to donate a quilt to the Glenn family who
recently had a fire in their home.

for Louise Bosman on June 22. Louise is
retiring after teaching for 30 years.
Tea was poured by former teachers and
served by Grade 7 and 8 students.
Louise was presented with a gift from the
staff of East Wawanosh by Marilyn
Brydges. Bill Stevenson made a presenta-,
tion on behalf of former teaching associates.
Clifford Coultes concluded with a humorous
recitation.
Louiseexpressed her thanks to the staff
and students for all the preparations made
for the tea and for the best wishes extended
to her on her retirement.

days with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Higgins, Bruce
and Donna.
,Elizabeth Proctor of Belgrave and Mrs.
Larry Mayberry of Londesboro visited on
June 28 with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler
and family of RR 4 Walkerton.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jamieson of RR 5
Wingtiam have recently purchased the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John Weber in
Belgrave.
They are welcomed to the village.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia of
London spent the weekend with Mils. Ken-
neth Wheeler.
Ethel Wheeler of the Woodley Home
Wroxeter also visited at the same home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brooks of Goderich
and Mr. and Mrs. Alf Nichol of Belgrave
were Sunday, June 29 dinner guests of Mrs.
Sam Fear.
Mary Hawkins and Louise Kotovich of
Windsor spend June 25-27 with Mrs. Sam
Fear.
They also called on the relatives .in the
area and attended two shows at the Blyth,
theatre.
Jeremy Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Campbell, held a "School is out" party
at his home on June 25. Attending the party
were: Kendra Folkard, Julie Snow, Shannon
Cook, Allie Culbert, Jamie McCallum, Luke
Lockridge, Ryan Cook, Michael Marks and
Jeremy's brother Justin. After lunch they
all enjoyed playing outdoors.
Justin Campbell celebrated his third bir-
thday June 29.
Celebrating with him for lunch at
McDonalds in Goderich were his brother
Jeremy, Adam Potter (whose third birthday
was also the same day) Matthew Snow and
Tania Pletch:
Lydiah Lane Bruton and her grandson,
Ricky Bruton of Los Angeles, California
visited recently with their cousin Olive Bolt
and other area relatives.
Ruth Higgins and Sherrie Fenton attended
a 4-H Leadership Camp. Olympia Pioneer
Sports Camp, near Huntsville from June
21-27. Ruth and Sherrie were two of the five
delegates from the county.
