UCW learns about New Zealand
CLINTON - .A well attended general
meeting of Ontario Street UCW took place in
the ladies' parlor on the evening of June 12.
Worship service, was conducted by Reta
Powell, Donna Woodall and Dianne Collyer
who are members of the Morning Coffee
Mates.
The Afternoon Group presented the pro-
gram which consisted of slides and a talk by
Bernice Jewson on their trip to New Zealand.
Having chosen the Farm Stay tour of both
the North and the South Islands the Jewsons
had opportunities to live with farm families
and get a true picture of life in New Zealand,
Bernice's talk, interspersed with anecdotes,
was most interesting and informative.
The business session was conducted by
president Evelyn Merrill after which
everyone enjoyed lunch served by the Even-
' ing Unit.

I would like to thank everyone for the lovely gifts
that I received on June 11 at the Community
shower which was held at the Bru'cefield Church
auditorium and also to the ladies for putting the

Kippen Pastoral Charge held a joint Youth
Anniversary Service. The theme of this ser-
vice was, "The Best Way to Have a Friend is
For You to be One." The children from both
Sunday Schools were in the junior choir, and
sang two songs. "The senior choir, compris-
ed of choir members from both congrega-
tions, also sang two songs.
Barbara Cooper and Barbara Livermore
were in charge of the music.
The service was taken by the young peo-
ple of the Sunday Schools. Those taking part
were Fayanne Love, Chrystal Jones, Brad
DeWys, Lori DeWys, Tricia Cooper and Ben
Rathwell.
The Message, Kids on the Block, was ex-
cellently presented by eight young people
using the puppets that are jointly owned by
the Huron County Board of Education and

relatives for the cards, flowers, gifts and visits
while 1 was in the hospital and after I came
home, Special thanks to the nurses and staff on
the first floor , also to Dr. Baker and Rev. Bechtel

dicapped. It explained how, with understan-
ding and kindness, handicapped children
can lead useful, happy lives. It was a
delightful presentation.
The puppeteers for this presentation
were: Joan Binnendyk, Ron Fleming, Beth
Cooper, Linda Binnendyk, Lois Jones, Lori
Livermore, Mary Moffatt, and Jason
Turner.
The ushers for this service were Janet
McBeath, Robert Hill, William Fother-
ingham and Barbara Fotheringham.
After the service, the annual Joint Con-
gregational Picnic was held.
Everyone enjoyed a luncheon and social
time in the church hall, after which games
and races were conducted on the church
lawn under the direction of Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Cooper and Edith Swan.

Church service
Hensall Community. Centre was filled with
music and song, warm fellowship and worship
on June 22 for the annual church service for
the Fiddlers' weekend. The large attendance
heard the Snell family thrill the congregation
with their leadership in music. The family
consisting of Barbara Bosman of Londesboro, -
Betty Jewitt of Ingersoll, Rob Snell of Exeter
and Rick Snell of Mitchell have been a popular
group in the area for many years. Missing
from the group was Bonnie Jewitt of Clinton.
Mary O'Brien and Tim O'Brien greeted the
congregation and the ushers were Lloyd
Ferguson, Donald Stebbins, Bill Stebbins and
Tim O'Brien. Norma Pryde was the organist.
Mr. McDonald led the service.
The Congregation was reminded that June
29 will be Senior Citizens' Sunday with Rev.
Dr. Alex Filshie as guest speaker. Dr. Filshie
went out from Hensall church as a candidate
for the ministry while his mother . was
teaching school in Hensall. He is now retired
and living in Sebringville. Following the ser -
vice there will be a special meeting of the
congregation.
Many visitors to the service were present
on June 22 from Chatham, Sombra, Aylmer,
Iona, West Lorne, Courtright, Highgate,
Rodney and Corunna and a number of other
places throughout Western Ontario.
Following the service, many of the con-
gregation supported the Hensall Kinsmen m
the breakfast -brunch in the area of the com-
munity centre.
A number of staff members of the Hensall
United Church Sunday School attended a Cur-
riculum Workshop held in Calvary United
Church on June 18. The staff were all excited
about the new curriculum to be used next year
called "Growing Together" based on the core
curriculum of the United church.
Rev. McDonald attended the 40th wedding
anniversary of his sister and brother-in-law
Ruth and Chester Earl of Atwood. Attending
along with a number of friends were their four
children Dennis and Joan Earl of Sault Ste.
Marie; Gary and Beth Earl of Listowel; Rick
and Mary Earl of Guelph and Judith at home.
