Clinton News-Record, 1986-06-18, Page 19Fellowship and friendship Veva Anne Lorraine Talbot Veva Anne Lorraine Talbot, S.A. (Classical Studies, Trent University, Peterborough), daughter of Marg and Bob Talbot of Bayfield, received her degree of Bacherlor of Education on May 23 from Queen's University in Kingston. Anne was enrolled in the Trent-Qeen's Concurrent Teacher Education Program, which includes a four month long teaching internship in Peter- borough. Anne is a graduate of Huron Centennial School in Brucefield and Of Cen- tral Huron Secondary School in Clinton. Townsend - Evans Connie Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Albert and Lillian Evans of Clinton, and David Alexander Townsend, son of Alex and Eileen Townsend of Seaforth, were married lila` Brucefield United Church on June 14. Rev. Lorne Keays and Rev. G.W. McAuslan officiated. Maid of honor was Cindy Evans, sister of the bride and bridesmaids were Lori Newmaster of Cambridge, Janice Cole of Highgate and Julie Townsend, sister of the groom. Julie Bell of Clinton, second cousin off the bride, was the flower girl. Ray Townsend of Arthur, cousin of the groom, was the ringbearer. Best man was Robert Axtmann of Walton and ushers were Brian Flaconer of Brucefield, Scott Townsend of Seaforth, brother of the groom, and Bryan Evans of Clinton, brother of the bride. Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Stanley Township Community Com- plex. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in Niagara Falls and will reside in Winnipeg, Manitoba. (Frank Phillips photo) Clinton man dies at age 83 Harold Glew Harold Francis Glew, of 15 Cutter Street, Clinton, died in Clinton Public Hospital on June 10. He was 83 -years -old.. Mr. Glew was employed with the Depart- ment of Transportation (MTC) for 26 years. He was also a member of Ontario Street United Church, a founding member and past president of the Huron Conservation Club and a 35 year member of the Clinton IOOF Lodge 183. Mr. Glew was born in Hullett Township on April 6, 1903 to Francis and Anne (Roberts) Glew. On March 2, 1929 he married Florence M. Jamieson in Exeter. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Glew was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Lillian Orpen, and one brother, William Glew. Funeral services were held on June 13 at Beattie Funeral Home, Clinton with Rev. David Woodall of Ontario Street United Church officiating. Flower bearers were Robert McClymont and Murray Taylor. -Pallbearers were Len Jamieson, Chris Mitzel, Steven Meister, Rodger Ladouceur, Peter Ladouceur and Larry Lidwell. Interment was in Clinton Cemetery with a graveside service. plans bus trip CLINTON - The Afternoon Unit of Ontario Street Church UCW, met in the ladies' parlor with 31 members and one visitor .pre- sent. Vera MacDonald opened the meeting with a few well chosen words to Gertrude and her group for devotions and the program. Gertrude opened with a short prayer. Then a hymn was sung, accompanied by Lorna Radford at the piano. Scripture was read by Helen Potter. Drucilla Prescott gave the meditation on Stewardship. The offering was taken by Lula dedicated by Gertrude and Anna Mc- Connell read a short poem. Gertrude closed the devotions with prayer. The minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. Roll call was answered by 13 hospital calls and 12 home calls. A thank you note was read from Brock Qlde. Lula read the Treasurers' report which was seconded by Helen Potter. Lila Webster gave a report regarding the bus trip on September 3 to go to see the play "Annie" at the Play House in Grand Bend. Everyone is to meet at the church at 1:15 p.m. and the cost is $20, including dinner. Flowers were arranged for the month of August. The general meeting is to be held June 12 at 7:30 p.m. Bernice Jewson is going to show pictures of Australia a'nd New Zealand and give a talk. Gertrude introduced Violet Lamb who showed her pictures in and around Goderich pertaining to the scriptures on which she spent some thought and time. Everyone en- joyed them and Vera MacDonald thanked Violet. Everyone enjoyed lunch served by Evelyn Olde and her group. Pro -Life membership up WINGHAM - Sixteen members of the board of directors attended the monthly meeting of Wingham Voice. for Life on June 2. The greater number of . board members reflects the growing membership, which now reaches close to 500 in number. The group is sponsoring a fund raising garage sale on June 27, at the home of George Lubbers, on Highway 86. Good usable articles will be gratefully accepted from anyone who wishes to donate. A walk- a-thon will be held in the fall, tentative date September 27. The group has purchased additional television time to air theForgetting So- meone commercial on CKNX during the months of June, July and August, making a total of 165 commercials spread out over the period from April 1, 1986 to March 31, 1987. Letters were sent to various departments in the five high schools in Huron County to inform them of the availability of the film or video-tape, The Silent Scream, for use by teachers in their classes or by.students for projects. In the fall, Voice for Life plans to host a regional meeting of neighboring pro-life groups to discuss goals and share ideas, fur- ther details forthcoming. Members of the group continue to picket the Morgentaler clinic on a regular basis. Outgoing president, John Van den Assem, was lauded for his dedication to the cause and his able leadership. Mr. Van den Assem responded by thanking board members for their co-operation and encouragement. The meeting was closed with prayer.
