CLINTON - The local raceway will play host to the first Ontario Sires Stakes event of the year for the two-year-old trotting colts on June 22. While a lot of the young colts are just get- ting their racing careers started, there have been some impressive performances by some of these youngsters to date. N V Worthy is a son of the stallion Worthy Bowl, who stands at Seelster Farms in Lucan, and he's won a schooling race at Orangeville Raceway by nine lengths in 2:08.3 for trainer -driver Bob Walker. Walker, who is a member of one of harness racing's leading families when it comes to developing trotting talent, is the same man who raced the great Nadirs Pride in 1985 when she won more than $200,000 in her two- year-old year. N V Worthy made his latest start at Hanover Raceway on June 7 against older horses and finished second. He's owned and was bred by the Golden Harvest Stable of Alliston, Ontario. Birdys Third Agile is a son of the former OSS star Armbro Agile and he won his quali- fying race at Hanover Raceway recently in 2:09.3, trotting his last half in 1:03.2. This colt is owned and was bred by Grace Car- ruthers of Ripley. John Grant's Armbro Fame turned a lot of heads in a schooling race at Mohawk recent- ly, when the Dream Of Glory colt kicked out a final quarter of :29.2 to win by 12 lengths in 2:05.2. Purchased as a yearling for $60,000 in a Toronto sale, Armbro Fame is trained by Peter Gillies. Rosemont Rebel is a colt who has a lot to live up to, and by early indication he's beginning to show the type of ability that made his older brother, General D Brook, one of the best trotters to come out of Canada. Owned and trained by Neil Flear of Rosemont, this son of Laryngitis has won in 2:10.2 at Orangeville Raceway. Another colt to show plenty of early ability but an unlikely starter at Clinton is C Lewis Lauxmont. In late May, this son of Balanced Image won at The Meadowlands in New Jersey in 2:02.1, making him the fastest trotting colt of the year to that point. Followers of the OSS will probably be hearing a lot more about him before the season ends. Other possible starters at Clinton might include Cragmore, a keystone Torpedo colt who has trotted Flamboro Downs in 2:08.1, and B A Big Star, another son of Armbro Agile. Owned by Blake Bennett, the , owner of ' Armbro Agile, this colt won a schooling race for veteran driver Don Cor- bett recently at London's Western Fair Raceway in 2:12.3. The next home game is on June 18 when Clinton tries for their first home victory. They will be playing Brussels on the Op- timist diamond. di CLINTO I NEWS-It1;COlW, WEDNESDAY, JUAN )6!
