HOSPITAL DAYS
On June 7, three local businesses held Clinton Hospital Days, donating money to the
hospital for their building fund. The Clinton Gas Bar, with the help of students from the
Clinton and District Christian School, washed cars with all donations going to the fund.
The Gas Bar also donated two per cent of their sales for the day. Willy's Burger Stop
donated 40 cents on every Willy burger and 10 cents on all other burgers while Durst
Farm Centre donated 10 cents per kilogram on pet food. In total, $665.25 was raised.
Those involved in the project were (left), Jennifer Slotegraaf of Clinton and District
Christian School; Bryan Durst of Durst Farm Centre; Doug Coventry, hospital fund rais-
ing chairman; Case Buffinga, Clinton Gas Bar; and Marg Taylor, Willy's Burger Stop.

Social services initiatives for elderly announced
Community and Social Services Minister
John Sweeney unveiled three new initiatives
that will amount to an additional $19.4tnillion
in annual spending by 1' :748 to improve com-
munity support services for senior citizens.
Saying that "the government of Ontario has
made a strong commitment to improving the
quality of life of the seniors of this province,"
Mr. Sweeney announced the new initiatives
in a statement to the legislature. They
include:
412million annually to expand the Integrated
Homemaker Program to an additional six to
eight communities. The communities involv-
ed will be named soon. The new funding
means the Integrated Homemaker Program
will be in place in as many as 14 Ontario com-
munities by the end of this fiscal year. Under
the program, homemakers visit frail seniors
and physically handicapped adults tq provide
homemaking and personal care services that
enable them to remain in their homes instead
of going to hospital or an institution.
Summer
school
offered
"SUMMER SCHOOL 86" is being offered
at Central Huron S.S. in Clinton from July 2
to July 25. Improvement Courses will be of-
fered for secondary students in English,
Mathematics, French, Science and History.
Remedial Courses in English and
Mathematics will be offered for students of
Grades 7 and 8. Driver Education will also
be available.
Previous summer schools have proven
that a student can achieve improved results
through concentrating his/her efforts in one
subject area. The prime objective of the pro-
gram is to enable a student to maintain a
better standing in a subject in which he/she
is experiencing difficulty.
A highly concentrated, accelerated pro-
gram. of study is offered which will enable
the student to gain a better understanding of
the subject with which he/she has had
difficulty.
Students who are interested in "SUM-
MER SCHOOL 86" should contact the prin-
cipal, the guidance head or one of the
teachers in their school for further informa-
tion and an application form.
•34.4million annually to improve home stip-
port :services for seniors. This is in addition
to $llmillion in spending announced in
January. Two million dollars will go towards
further expansion of services for seniors this
fiscal year. The government will also in-
crease the provincial share of the cost of these
home support services. That share is current-
ly as much as 60 per cent. The province will
be moving to a maximum of 70 per cent begin-
ning next fiscal year at an annual cost of an
additional $2.4million. Home support services
are designed to give seniors the help they
need to remain at home. Among the services
included are hot meals delivered through the
meals on wheels program, transportation and
telephone checks with seniors who live alone.
43million annually to continue the expansion
of community services for victims of
Alzheimer's disease and their families. The
