Outstanding
new line
Triple fish, the high quality Perlon
monofilament fishing line from West
Germany, has taken the Canadian
fishing scene by storm. Since its in-
troduction, coast-to-coast, on the Cana-
dian fishing scene in 1980/81, Triple
Fish has quickly gained recognition as
an outstanding line at a reasonable
price.
Triple Fish is available in ;many col-
ours and two brands, Regular and
Special Premium in a broad range of .
test strength two to 50 lbs. Dispensers
include mini -packs (110 yards), filler
spools (275 yards), maxi spools (660
yards), and bulk spools 1/4,1, 2 lbs. and
3000 yards. It is available in leading
tackle shops and tackle counters across
Canada.
Triple Fish is being continuously field
4.1
tested by many of Canada's leading out-
door writers and sportfishermen in
order to create awareness in its
superior quality. The newest outdoor
writers to join the Triple Fish field
testing' team are Wilf Pyle of Regina
and James Miller of Winnipeg.
But Triple Fish wants to hear from
fishermen across Canada about their
success with Triple Fish line. It plans to
increase its display of photographs of
Canadian anglers with their fish caught
on Triple Fish line. To achieve this, Tri-
ple Fish is asking anglers to send in
photos of themselves or their fishing
partners holding up the fish they'
caught. Sharp, clear, close-up photos
with large or unusual fish are
preferred.
The following information, clearly
Naturally Speaking
13y Stere Cooke
printed, should accompany each photo:
name and address of angler, species of
fish and its length and weight, when and
where caught, whether released or
kept, strength of Triple Fish line used,
and a sentence or two on how the angler
feels about Triple Fish.
For every photograph used, Triple
Fish will send the angler a one-shot
filler spool of 10 lb. test of Special
Premium line, royal blue Triple Fish
cap, embroidered crest and a cheque
for $5.00 for the photo.
Fishermen should send their, photos
to Triple Fish, P.O. Box 336, Grimsby,
Ontario, L3M 4H8.
A few people have tried my recipe for
damper, and told me they enjoyed it, so
I'll give you another little gem.
Damper was an Australian favorite,
but this one comes straight from the
wild African bush dating back to the
hardy Trekboers. Called VETKOEK,
the only link to the other recipe is again
the use of self raising flour.
Vetkoek should be made in a deep
cast iron pot, but a frying pan can be us-
ed if you are very careful about starting
a grease fire. Put about an inch of oil in
your pot and set it on the stove or camp-
fire to heat while mixing your batter.
Into a bowl, combine two cups of self
raising flour, a teaspoon of salt, and one
of sugar. Drop in an egg, and blend in a
cup of water with a knife or large spoon.
Keep the batter firm, and add more
flour if necessary.
When your grease is hot (but not so
hot as to burn the outside leaving the in-
terior raw), drop the batter by the
tablespoonful into it.'Don't try to do too
many at once.
As the puff cooks, it will turn golden
brown on the bottom, and when done on
one side, flip itself over in the oil to cook
the other side. When done, set them
aside to cool off slightly, and serve with
jam or honey. They can also be rolled
in powdered sugar to make doughnuts
or mix raisins in the dough for a special
treat.
Vetkoek are especially good for a
leisurely breakfast in the bush, washed
down with a mug or two of good strong
coffee.
Oh yes, the man who gave me this
recipe said it was good to hum, whistle
or sing a few bars of something cheerful
while cooking these treats. It makes
them lighter he claims.
