Souch finished nineteenth in the midget boys' 3,000 metre event with a very respec- table 9.48 second run. Colquhoun finished four enth in the midget boys' high jump even i h a 1.7 metre jump. Although neither of the two had expected to make it as far as the OFSAA meet, Souch explained that the experience taught them something. "I realized haw much practice we would need to be good when I sav how good they really are," he said of the athletes who gatheed from across Ontario. Both athletes hope to return to the team at CHSS next year, but in Colquhoun's case he may have to make the choice between soc- cer and track and field, as the school may not allow students to participate in more than one sport at a time. They also admitted the part they enjoy the most about the sport is getting out and com- STEVE SOUCH peting. "When I practice high jump I don't gt very high, but In competition I do a lot be '.' Colquhoun said. Despi their failure to place in the top rankings for OFSAA, neither of the athletes are disappointed. "You realize It's OFSAA; Lack of interest puts soccer CLINTON - Due to a lack of interest on the part of players and parents, Clinton will not have a squirt soccer team this year. "We have had limited interest," said Clin- ton Director of Recreation, Steve Campbell. "There were only four to six kids interested." Although Mr. Campbell put some of the blame on the children for not wishing to play, he also attributed part of the problem to the fact that some parents do not wish to stay in Clinton on the weekends for games. He has also had difficulty finding an adult who wanted to be head coach of the team, as former coach and president of the soccer association, John Preston, is moving and can not take the job. "Soccer is a specialized sport; in this area I feel it is a newer sport," Mr. Campbell said. "Parents are always telling me 'I don't know anything about soccer."' "John could do it when he had assistants, but with John gone, no one wants to be head coach," he said. Mr. Campbell explained that the recrea- tion committee may .have been able to do DEVON COLQUHOUN it's the best race. It's way up there," Souch said. To keep up to form over the summer, Souch has joined the Wingham Track and Field Club and Colquhoun is playing soccer with the men's senior soccer team in Clinton. on hold more for soccer, but as they have taken over three major events which they never had before - soccer, minor ball and ball hockey - they had no time. "We can't give it the time it deserves, soc- cer and minor ball take up a lot of time," he said. "Next year we could have someone come in and be interested in running a team, and it could take off from there, or it may not happen for years," Mr. Campbell said. "That's the way minor sports are."
