Grace Peck celebrates 9011' birthday
By David Emslie •
CLINTON - On May 24., Grace Peck, a life-
long citizen of Huron County, celebrated her
90th birthday at Huronview.
Born in Hay Township, Mrs. Peck has liv-
ed in many areas within the county in-
cluding Hensall, Stanley Township and
Kippen.
Though she was raised on a farm in Hay
Township, when her brother decided to take
over the family farm, she moved with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Elder, to
Hensall.
She resided there for three or four years
before marrying Robert M. Peck and mov-
ing to the Stanley Township.
Mrs. Peck, along with her late husband,
raised a family of five, with three sons and
two daughters.
Following the war, the three boys decided
they wanted a farm, so Mr. And Mrs. Peck
bought another one, just outside of Kippen.
Her son Jack, and his family still live on that
farm.
' Prior to moving to Huronview almost nine
years ago, Mrs. Peck lived alone in a house
on Main Street in Hensall.
"I enjoy living here," she said, "I made
my own decision to move here."
She explained that some of her decision
stemmed from the fact that she was the
secretary of the Huronview Auxiliary for
GRACE PECK
five years before the move.
"I did some visiting around, I knew
the
place and the people, and 1 decided it would
be a good place to live," she Said.
On the subject of her 90th birthday, Mrs.
Peck said, "I can't believe I'm 90, I don't
feel any older. I don't know what they're
making all the fuss about."
She did agree, however, after thinking
back a bit, that it may have been some kind
of achievement as her ancestors did not live
that long.
Keeping active is one reason Mrs. Peck
gave for her longevity. She keeps active
through oil painting approximately five
mornings a week. Her paintings gpicturesuds
landscapes, and many
painted from flowers brought inside.
Mrs. Peck's paintings can now be seen
decorating the hallways at Huronview,
while others are with her family. She has
also sold a few of her paintings.
As Mrs. Peck feels it would be.awful to sit
all day, she also keeps active with writing
and reading, and she has been on the resi-
dent's council since it was started. On top of
these activities she dabbles in piano play-
ing, which she calls "practicing."
Mrs. Peek's family held her birthday par-
ty on May 24 in the auditorium at Huron -
view, and it was an open house party for any
resident wishing to attend. That evening
they held a family dinner in her honor.

The attendance was over -:whelming. The
following are some student accounts of
these and other activities:
Grandparefts' Day'
On May 16 we bad our Grandparents'
Day! In, the morning most of our grand-
parents Came to visit us in our classrooms
and see how we were doing in school. -
I had both sets of grandparents. come to
see me' in my classroom. At 10:30 a.m. the
grandparents were served coffee and other
refreshments. Then they checked in on our
classrooms again.
At 12 p.m. the PTA served them a. lunch
consisting of buns and soup. Then at 1 p.m.
the students put on an assembly for the
grandparents.
There was singing, chanting, poetry
reciting and other things. Then some of the
grandparents left but there were still some
strolling through the school. It was hard to
work at times because of the noise level, but
all in all it was a great day!

Trip to Science Centre
On May 9, early in the morning, we set off
to the Ontario Science Centre. It was 6:30
a.m. when we left.
The ride was very long but we had big lun-
_ches and lots of snacks to munch on. We
played games on the bus and looked out of
the windows, onto the busy highway.
About halfway, we stopped at a service
station to have a washroom,
maybe buy a small snack. V
the science centre, we divide . mato-gra

Haitian children in Holy Trinity School,

supply of pencils, paper, rulers, crayons and
pencil sharpeners brought by -over 2,000
Anglican children as their offering at
Huron's Diocesan Children's Festival wor-

The special day for youngsters five to 12
years and their teen-age and adult leaders,
began a decade ago but within three years
the Cathedral could no longer accommodate

which is The Glory of God. One
specific which comes to mind is
found in Acts Chapter 7 Verse 55
"But He, being full of the Holy
Ghost (Spirit), looked up steadfastly
into Heaven. and saw The Glory of
God and Jesus standing on the right
hand of God."
This is not however, the proof of a
Messenger from God. As in the days
of Christ it is still "By their fruits ye
shall know them." The fruits of all
the Messengers of God are their life,
their word and the effect it has on
their followers.
