This is the Midget Boys Track and Field team from Central Huron
Secondary School. The team won the championship for midget boys
at the Huron -Perth meet that was held on May 12 and May 13.

Midget Boys win Huron- Perth title
For the first time in 10 years, Central Huron
Secondary School (CRSS) has won a sectional
championship at the Huron -Perth Track and
Field Championships which are held annually
in Goderich.
•The Midget Boys collected over 100 points
last week to claim the pennant. Steve Souch
won all three events he entered and was the
co -midget boys individual championship. He
tied with a Madill athlete.
Central Huron had 60 competitors on the
team this year and a number of individual
best, school records and fineefforts were
recorded. The team as a whole finished 4th
out of 11 schools and collected 358 points; 28

Largest book sale in Blyth
Book lovers, collectors, and just plain
avid readers are invited to Huron County's
largest used book sale to be held Saturday
May 31 from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday June
1 from noon until 5 pm, in the Memorial Hall
in Blyth.
This popular fund-raising event for the
Blyth Festival is in its eighth year.
Thousands of used hardcover and paper-
back books will be on sale at incredibly low
prices. In addition to the book bargains,
there will be a bake table and lunch counter,
a garage sale on the lawn sponsored by the
Blyth Festival Singers, and tours of the
theatre. The Festival Box Office will be
open on the Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pin, for
those wishing to purchase tickets for the
Blyth Festival or exchange vouchers.
Throughout the weekend, an exhibition of
the work of London artist Tom Benner will
be on display in the Festival Gallery. Mr.
Benner himself will present a slide show and
discussion of his work on Saturday at 1 pm
and 3 pm. For children, Warren Robinson
will be spinning yarns on Sunday afternoon
at 2 pm.

boys event. Dan McDougall placed second
with a 1.71 meter jump and Devon Col-
quhoun was third at 1.69 meter. Kevin
Scrimgeour was third in the junior event at
1.73 meter and Steve Kolkman was second
in the senior event at 1.72 meters.
In the long jump, Susan Govenlock finish-
ed first out of 22 competitors with a school
record tying jump of 4.75 meters. Julie Trick
finished second in the same event with a fine
4.71 meter jump. Pam Uyl placed fourth in
the junior girls with a personal best of 4.36
meters as did Shawn Lester in the senior boys
with a 5.73 meter jump. Devon Colquhoun was
fifth in the midget boys at 5.2 meters, while
Steve Dolmage was fifth in the junior boys
with a 5.22 meter jump. •

In the triple jump, Derek Jefferson finish-
ed second in the midget boys with a 10.95
meter jump while Devon Colquhoun was
fourth at 10.88 meters. In the junior event
Ron Calder was third with a personal best
11.84 meter jump and Shawn Lester was
third in the senior event with a personal best
12.12 meter j'ump.
After a number of years of non-involvement
in the pole vault event, Mr. Hilyard has en-
thusiastically reawakened an interest in this
event at Central Huron. In the senior boys
event, Terry Cox finished second with a 2.97
meter jump, while Robin Lobb was third at
2.87 meters. In the midget boys, Jason Cox
finished third with a 2.44 meter jump and
Herman Gerrits was fourth at 2.30 meters.
Jason set a new school record in his event.
Overall 13 school records were tied or
broken during the event.
