Soybean industry reaches agreement Ontario's soybean growers, dealers and processors settled the agreement for marketing the 1986 Ontario soybean crop during their second negotiating session on April 15. The major issue at the talks was the method of determining the price that direc- tors will pay for Ontario soybeans. Since 1962, the processors have agreed to pay On- tario soybean growers the same price that they pay for imported soybeans, because Ontario has historically been a net soybean importer. Import pricing has been main- BEST INTEREST 93/4% Guaranteed Investment Certificates *Subject to change Twin City School of Hairstyling Waterloo, Ont. •Hairstyling • Barbering • Ear Piercing • Make- up 55 Erb St. East Gaiser-Kneale //:4 Insurance Brokers Inc. The processors believe that Ontario has reached self sufficiency in soybean produc- tion and -will be a net exporter this year. Growers contend that soybean acreage is predicted to decrease this year as a result of prices which are below the cost of produc- tion; which will keep Ontario in an import position. Several improvements were incorporated in the 1986 Agreement. The scale of charges for drying soybeans was revised. Rather fF.. large differences in drying than in charges for each one half percent increase in moisture, drying charges vary in smaller increments for each one-tenth of a percent difference. The base rate of drying charges in unchang- ed for 1986. Maurice Waddick, Chairman of the On- tario Soya -Bean' Growers' Marketing Board was pleased with the 1986 Marketing Agree- ment. "Our board was ready to go to ar- bitration to keep the import price system", said Mr. Waddick, "I'm glad that we were able to settle through open negotiation and the agreement of the entire soybean industry.' 886-6305 Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm staurt 1st t►lrars* V tttw+' G.
