Sid and Catherine Slotegraaf
From the Netherlands to .Clinton
- married life spans 50 years
CLINTON -1936 was the beginning of Sid
and Catherine Slotegraaf's married life.
They were wed in a small town called
Oudega, Friesland in the Netherlands.
Their home was typically dutch, a small
house with a farm building attached to the
home. Sid supported his bride and future
family by farming.
In 1950, with nine children, they im-
migrated to Canada, sponsored by a farmer

141, until he was able to purchasr. Later Sid worked for thee his own
farm in New Dundee.
Sid and Catherine had three more
children making their family complete.
Later in 1969 they moved to a farm on the
Maitland and presently reside in Clinton.
Although life wasn't always easy for them
as an immigrant family, they both say it
was their love for each other and their faith
in God that carried them through.
On May 10 they will celebrate this happy
occasion with their 12 married children, 45
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Dr. Henry" Veenstra, a Doctor of

He presented two questions in regards to
educating God's children today,
1. Do we, as a Christian School Society, have
an educational creed on how values are to be
taught in our Christian School?
2. Does our school provide the means to give
direction and teach .our children self-
confidence?

Dr. Veenstra said students who have pro-
blems with math, reading and writing have
very limited self-confidence because of the
emphasis that is placed on these subjects.
We have to recognize the wide range of
skills of our children and build up their self-
confidence,accordingly. . •,,
•We must broaden our horizns when train-
ing our teachers and keep them up-to-date in
all areas of education so that they will be
better able to educate the whole child. Com-
puters can help to make this possible by giv-
ing our children the opportunity to use other
skills besides reading and writing.

plans together for a successful campaign.
The board has over the last year, put
together a history of the hospital and its
board chairmen and will be unveiling this,
when the new board room, which has been
under construction over the last several
months, is completed. There will be a
special day scheduled for the opening of the
new board room with all the past board
chairmen and/or spouses invited who can

On April 29, Rev. Richard Hawley per-
formed the weekly church service. Josie
Rychman was the volunteer pianist.
The following day, residents enjoyed the
best movies presentation yet. It was entitl-
ed, "J.T." the story of a shy. lonely Harlem

alley cat named Bones. It was an excellent
movie.
On May 3, several nursing home residents
met in the activity room for an afternoon of
