Londesboro bowling league honors long-time member

LONPESBORD - Jac Lee made a dedica-
tion speech and presented a plaque to Jack
Armstrong, a long-time bowler and co-
founder of the Londesboro Men's Bowling
League, during the league's annual banquet
at the hall on April 10.
(Ir, ,drnmstrong had to retire from bowling
this year 'because of 111 health. He is in his
90th year and still holds an admirable
average of 149.
The first place team for the season was
the Model T's. Captain Burt Greidanus
presented the trophies to his team of Henry
Wilts, Bob Szusz, Paul Buchanan, Bev
Bromley and Bruce Roy.
The second place team over the year was
the Packard's with captain Bill Soutiaux
presenting the trophies to Tom Duizer, Alex
Westerhout, Dave Plant, Gerrit Wilts and
faGarnet Wright. Finishing in third place
were the Chev's made up of captain Bill
Shaddick, Jack Lee, Ed DeJong, Bob
Jameison, Terry Albrecht and Dave Lear.
The Model T's were also the first place
team in the playoffs followed by the Rabbits
with captain Joe Hunking, Harry Lear, Don
Buchanan, Scott Millar, Herman Greidanus
and Dennis Penfound. Finishing third was
the team of the Buicks with captain Garry
Buchanan, Bert Lyon, Don Reid, Darrell
Shobbrook, Jack Snell and Brad Thompson.
Bev Bromley was awarded the high
average trophy for the year with a 208
average. Harry Lear bowled the high triple
for the year with a 796 while Tom Duizer
registered the high single for the season
with a 350 game.
Sixteen bowlers had perfect attendance in
the league this year. They were: Ted
Fothergill, Dave Lear, Ron Nesbitt, Paul
Buchanan, Bob Szusz, Frank Szusz, Scott
Millar, Herman Greidanus, Gerrit Wilts,
Doug Snell, Joe Hunking, Garry Buchanan,
Don Buchanan, Bert Lyon, Bill Soutiaux and
Jack Lee.
Bill Roy handed out cash prizes to third
place team for the season and first and to
the second and third place teams in the
playoffs. Jack Armstrong thanked the WI
ladies for catering to the banquet. After the
banquet, 35 bowlers went to the Clinton alley
for a fun night.

Londesboro Ladies' Bowling League
The banquet for the Londesboro Ladies'
Bowling League was held at the hall on April
15 with the WI ladies catering a hot turkey
meal. Twenty bowlers attended.
The team standings for the year were as
follows: Misfits - 117; Dixie Dewdrops - 108;
Par 4 and Royal Flushers - tied at 76. The

Shobbrook who celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary on April 21.

Carter on the birth of their grandaughter

Bob Burns was admitted to the Clinton
Public Hospital on April 17. Friends wish
him- a speedy recovery.
Barbara Bosman returned home Satur-
day after spending a week in St. Joseph's
Hospital in London having had tooth
surgery.
Congratulations to Colin and Jane Swan
on the birth of Nicholas Alexander, 6.5 lbs,
on April 20 in Sarnia. He's a new brother for
David, Laura Jane and Elizabeth.
Rev. MacCarson, a former minister at the
Londesboro United Church, has accepted a
neweposition in the department of political
science at the University of Western On-
tario. He starts his new position on May 1.
Edythe Beacom and Laura Lyon returned
home on April 20 after spending three mon-
ths at Ponto Gardens, Florida. Mary
Longman returned home with them after
spending the past two weeks there.
UCW members attending the UCW con-
ference in Stratford on Monday were, Ber-
niccr Norman, Audrey Thompson, Helen
Lawson, Helen Lee, Joan Whyte, Kitty
McGregor, Betty Hulley. Attending the
evening session were Reta Kelland, Mary
Peel,Margaret Good and Dora Shobbrook.

Nancy Allen was a patient in Clinton
Public Hospital where she had surgery.
Attending the Walton UCW Thanitoffering
on April 20 were Betty Hulley, Dora Shah-
brook and Margaret and Joan Whyte from
Londesboro UCW, Jean Scott and Kay
Koranski from Burns UCW.
Ruth and Allen Shaddick spent the
weekend in Kitchener with their family Lloy
and Dirk Garlichs, Jeff and Karin Shaddick,
Danny Stephen and Crystal.
On April 16, 11 Happy Gang seniors at-
tended the Zone 8 Spring Rally at McKay
Hall in Goderich.
Betty Hulley from the Londesboro UCW
attended the Blyth UCW evening meeting on
April 20.
Remember the step -dancing recital by the
students of Cheryl Bromley at the Hullett
school on May 1 at 7 p.m. Playing fiddle and
piano for the recital is Arnold Craig and
Marie Flynn. The special guests are Bar-
bara and Lisa Bosman and Audrey Thomp-
son. Everyone is welcome. There's a silver
collection at the door.

Greeting the congregation for the service
were Rev. Snihur and Bernice Norman.
Ushers for the occasion were Paul Jewitt,
Brent Howatt, Brent Radford and Kevin
Wright.
Lighting the candles was Brent Radford.
Rev. Snihur welcomed the congregation and
announced the photographs for the family
photo directory•will be taken on April 29 at 8
p.m. He reminded everyone that Daylight
Savings Time comes into effect next week.
A bible was presented to Kent Shilling who
graduated from the junior congregation.
For children's time, the youngsters sang.
A demonstration with a salt shaker taught
the children that "they are the salt of the
earth." The junior teacher for this week was
Sylvia Trick.
The anthem was sang by the junior girls'
choir directed by Marsha Szusz and accom-
panied by Lisa Duizer. The scripture
reading and lesson was taken from Revela-
tions. The sermon was If I Should Die (part
two) .
