Mayors discuss
mutual concerns
EXETER - The mayors of Huron's five
county towns met formally for the first time
at a dinner session last week and Mayor
Bruce Shaw advised that it may be the first
of many such encounters.
Terming the inaugural session "very suc-
cessful", Shaw said the five mayors plan to
meet again before the summer to go over
specific items that were broached.
"The five towns have a great deal in com-
mon," he continued saying that the other
towns share some of the local gripes and
grievances with county council decisions.
Shaw said the five heads of council were
pleased with the meaningful dialogue they
enjoyed and planned to look at some major
issues in the future, such as waste disposal,
policing and county matters.

Bill and Eleanor McAsh and Bob and Mar-
jorie Stirling returned April 10 from their
holiday in Saddlebag Park near Lake Wales
in Florida. The Stirlings were away for a
couple of weeks and the McAsh's since late
January. They enjoyed almost perfect
weather and came home feeling great. The
reality of Canadian weather hit them rather
suddenly on the way home, as it snowed so
hard in the Grand Bend area they could
hardly see to drive.
Bob and Elva Peck returned a couple of
weeks ago after a two-month stay in Yuma,
Arizona. They were only a few miles from
Marlene and Elroy Desjardine of Zurich,
and next door to Marlene's sister, Shirley
Gunn and her husband Bill of Victoria, B.C.
They were shocked to hear of Shirley's
death since their return, as she was ap-
parently in good health.
The Pecks took trips to surrounding areas
and attractions, such as the famous San
Diego Zoo. Bob attended a vacuum cleaner
dealer's convention and a satellite dealer's
convention in Las Vegas, where Nancy took
a picture of him with President Re
(He carries the picture with him, as
about it!
He had the pleasure of shaking hands
twice with Gene Autry at ball games bet-
ween the Los Angeles Angels and the San
Diego Padres. • Bill and Marjorie Consitt
called on them when they were in a parkin
the area.
The choir for the sesquicentennial church
service ,has been busy practising. The next
practice is in Varna church on April 22 at 8
